Tour | Rome: The Colosseum (virtual, live stream)

If you come to Rome, you can't miss the Colosseum. It is one of the most, if not the most, iconic Roman monuments still standing today. On this tour with Sara, you will focus on the history and archaeology of the spectacular amphitheatre, also known as the Flavian amphitheatre. Built in 72 a.d by the Flavian family and completed in only 8 years by the Jewish slaves, it was a real stadium dedicated to the gladiatorial fights, animal hunts and public executions. Although it is not possible to go inside of the Colosseum, Sara will show you this main symbol of Rome and its imposing construction that, with almost 2,000 years of history, will bring you back in time to discover the way of life in the Roman Empire.

Park Walk | Tide Deck Tour

The design of the park's Pier 26 is inspired by the Manhattan shoreline that would have existed prior to Henry Hudson's 1609 expedition. The pier includes a series of ecological communities representing this native landscape, including from a woodland forest to the rocky tidal zone and the Hudson River itself. One of the most unique of these native coastal environments is a manufactured rocky tidal marsh, the Tide Deck which is located on the western end of the Pier. The Tide Deck and its marsh plants ebb and flood with our daily tidal cycle, and features many interesting habitat enhancements including tide pools. Take a socially distant tour on the Tide Deck walkway. Staff will talk about this special environment. Please note that COVID-19 safety precautions will be in place for this event.
