Parks are becoming a logical alternative environment for those who want to add variety to their workouts, or who just don't like the gym. And, it's an affordable way to increase physical activity opportunities, because there's nothing special to build. Exercise with a view, in natural sunlight, with green scenery all around bestows health benefits that can't be found indoors. Scientific studies have shown that the pleasure of being outdoors for example gives your brain, psyche, and immune system an extra boost. Led by trained professionals, and suitable for all levels. Birdwatching | New York City Naturalist Club: Bald Eagle Watch
Sick of being cooped up indoors? Set out with our Urban Park Rangers on one of the many hikes and birding tours they offer. Winter is a great time to spot bald eagles. In the winter, many raptors--birds of prey--tend to fly further south to New York City in search of food. Urban Park Rangers will guide you to the best wildlife viewing spots in the urban jungle. To enhance your experience, they encourage you to bring binoculars and field guides, or ask a park ranger to borrow a pair.

Workshop | Origami Meetup Group
A group for people to come together and share in the beautiful art of Origami - the ancient art of folding various mediums, most commonly paper. The word comes from the combination of the Japanese verb oru (to fold) and the noun kami (paper). Other materials often folded are fabric, wire mesh, sheet metal, tissue, thin plastic, cardboard, and straws. Origami, from ori meaning "folding", and kami meaning "paper" is the art of paper folding, which is often associated with Japanese culture. In modern usage, the word "origami" is used as an inclusive term for all folding practices, regardless of their culture of origin. The goal is to transform a flat square sheet of paper into a finished sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques.

Parade | Ukulele Caroling
Calling all ukes! Players of all skill levels are welcomed to join the second annual winter solstice gathering of ukuleles in a Village parade launching from Washington Square Park. The afternoon will feature classic holiday and repertoire tunes for the ukulele and is suitable for players of all ages. Walkups are welcome (bring your own uke!), but if you know you are coming please RSVP below.
