You can take at least 13 free tours every day of the year, except the New Year Day, July 4th, and the Christmas Day. Led by members of the percussion section of Brooklyn-based Afrobeat pioneers, Antibalas, participants on this percussion parade will weave through the streets of Greenwich Village, creating a rhythmic fabric of interlocking parts and sounds. Percussionists of every level are invited to bring shekeres, claves, agogo bells, cowbells, and any other handheld percussion that melds with the rhythmic web of the West African musical forms that make up Afrobeat. Parade | Kalimbascope Parade


Created by composer J.C. King, this parade of the inviting sounds of the kalimba (an evolution of the African mbira) will embark upon a mile long walk of Lower Manhattant. The plucking of this handheld folk instrument is amplified by a rolling speaker, creating a gentle, reverberating soundscape as the sounds play off of buildings and other city structures. This will be the third annual Kalimbascope. All are encouraged to bring their own kalimbas (kalimbas will be available for the first 25 participants to borrow). Meet-up will be at 4pm; the parade starts at 4:32pm.

Parade | Parranda de Inverno: Parade with an All-Women Drumline


To the beat of head-turning, diverse Brazilian sounds, the public is invited to travel through midtown Manhattan in a parade of rhythm and dance! Participants are encouraged to bring their Brazilian percussion instruments, or simply look, listen, and walk with this vibrant ensemble. The drumline will make its way around Midtown Manhattan. This new event features the all-women drumline Fogo Azul NYC.

Parade | Bell by Bell: An Atmospheric Soundscape


Artist Tom Peyton distributes seventy color-coded bells to the crowd, one color per note. A team of conductors waves corresponding colored flags to lead the group in slowly moving music, written by a variety of composers. Now in its sixth year, this sonorous soundscape will return to the East Village. Participants will take to the streets, stopping at choice neighborhood locations to joyfully wave the flags and sound the bells, concluding at well known East Village establishment to relax into the night. The parade gathers at 5:00 pm and begins at 6:00 pm . With bell music from Eric Beach, Dan Edinberg (The Stepkids), Nat Evans, Eric Frederic, Amy Garapic, Robert Honstein, Matt Marble, Tom Peyton and Alex Waterman.

Classical Music | Viola Works by Bach and Others


Gregory K. Williams is a multifaceted violist, making his mark as a soloist, orchestral, and chamber musician. Recent solo performances include recitals in the Netherlands, Germany, the Czech Republic, and throughout the United States. He is the acting Principal Violist of the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, and the Principal Violist with the Berkshire Opera Festival. He has also performed with the Albany Symphony, Symphony in C, the Syracuse Symphony, and at the Aspen Music Festival. Currently Mr. Williams serves as a violist with the Red Door Chamber Players and as the founding violist for Rhymes With Opera. Williams will perform a concert of classical music from works by J. S. Bach, Alan Hovhannes, Günter Raphael, Joan Tower, Anthony Green and Henri Vieuxtemps.
