Built exclusively around James Baldwin's words, I Am Not Your Negro delves into the complex legacy of three lives (and deaths) that permanently marked the American social and political landscape. Framing the unfinished work as a radical narration about race in America, Peck matches Baldwin's lyrical rhetoric with rich archival footage of the Civil Rights and Black Power movements, and connects these historical struggles for justice and equality to the present-day movements that have taken shape in response to the killings of young African-American men including Trayvon Martin, Tamir Rice, Mike Brown, and Amir Brooks. 95 min. Discussion | Does American Conservatism Have a Future? The 2016 Election in Retrospect

A timely and important conversation with Sam Tanenhaus and Richard Wolin reflecting on the 2016 election and its implications for the future of American politics. The 2016 election has raised fundamental questions about the well-being of democracy in America. It has also raised important questions about the health of the two-party system and the future of the Republican Party. It is in this spirit that political analysts and pundits have been wondering aloud: is “Trumpism” a blip on the radar, or is it likely to become an enduring feature of the American political landscape? If the latter is the case, what type of political challenges and upsets might we expect in the future?

Film | Special Advance Screening: Raoul Peck's I Am Not Your Negro

Built exclusively around James Baldwin's words, I Am Not Your Negro delves into the complex legacy of three lives (and deaths) that permanently marked the American social and political landscape. Framing the unfinished work as a radical narration about race in America, Peck matches Baldwin's lyrical rhetoric with rich archival footage of the Civil Rights and Black Power movements, and connects these historical struggles for justice and equality to the present-day movements that have taken shape in response to the killings of young African-American men including Trayvon Martin, Tamir Rice, Mike Brown, and Amir Brooks. 95 min. Shown December 9th - December 15th at 5:00pm and 7:30pm.
