Updated with new images of New York as seen from above by the great aerial photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand, the latest edition of New York from the Air (Harry Abrams, 2011) stunningly presents the city as few have ever seen it. The photographs transform even the most ordinary streets, parks, rooftops, and neighborhoods into stunning and often beautifully abstract vistas of urban geometry. Architectural historian John Tauranac, who wrote the text for the book, will share some of his favorite photographs in this illustrated lecture and reveal some of the tales behind this striking new look at New York.

Screening | Documentary: Alex de Verteuil & Elizabeth Topp's '70: Remembering a Revolution (2010)

How did a handful of students change the course of history in Trinidad and Tobago? Between February and April 1970, the streets of Port of Spain were filled with angry young black men and women chanting 'Power to the People.' This was the legendary Black Power revolution, which captivated the imaginations of their youthful followers and made the government of Dr. Eric Williams and the white establishment very nervous. The revolution was ended by a State of Emergency, but this in turn was threatened by a surprise mutiny among the soldiers of the Regiment. Had it succeeded (a distinct possibility) a military coup might well have ushered in a socialist revolutionary government to Trinidad and Tobago. This story is told through archival footage and photographs, members of the white business community, journalists and the revolutionaries themselves. 85 min.
