An afternoon of new works-in-progress features performances by Maxi Hawkeye Canion and Kris Lee & Lauren Bakst. Maxi Hawkeye Canion is a Brooklyn-based Black Trans/Queer performance artist whose immersive, improvisation-driven works explore intimacy, failure, and surreal autobiographical narratives. Kris Lee is a New York–based dance artist and performer working across experimental movement and Black aesthetics. Lauren Bakst is a scholar and artist in experimental performance and queer studies, currently completing a PhD at the University of Pennsylvania. Curated by MacArthur Fellow and Bessie Award winner Ishmael Houston-Jones, the showings are followed by a reception and conversation with the artists.
