Roosevelt House - the former double townhouse of Franklin, Eleanor and Sara Delano Roosevelt, and now owned by Hunter College - offers visitors a chance to get closer to a family as unique as the city they inhabited, and to explore the private spaces where some of the most iconic public policy of the 20th century was shaped. Hear about FDR's rise to the presidency after his struggle with polio, Eleanor's activism for civil rights and human rights, and Sara's support for interracial and interfaith initiatives. Meet at 10:00AM and take the ferry at 10:30AM (the ferry leaves on time). On the ferry, see the beauty of New York Harbor. Then take the bus to “Lenny’s Creations” and Snug Harbor. After walking back to St. George, visit its many beautiful and interesting buildings. Bring lunch, water and binoculars or camera with optical zoom lens. Group will return to ferry at 3:30PM. Now in its 84th year, the Outdoor Art Exhibit will hold its annual spring show. The show features exciting new and veteran exhibitors in all categories of fine arts and fine crafts, both traditional and contemporary. Oils and watercolors, pastels and acrylics, graphics, photography and sculpture make up the fine arts group. The crafts include such specialties as jewelry, ceramics, wood, fiber and. mixed media. Each exhibit consists of an individual artist or artisan showing their own original work.

Tour | Ultra-red: Introduction to Collective Listening


Sound collective Ultra-red will lead a sound walk and workshop based on its work Protocols for the Wojnarowicz Object, or What Is the Sound of Building Up and Tearing Down? Festival | 20th Annual Lower East Side Festival of the Arts


The festival occurs in two of the venue's four theaters. In addition, the festival has an outdoor component, all day Saturday May 23rd, there will be performances by poets, actors, dancers, musicians, and much food by local merchants. The latest film from legendary documentarian Albert Maysles, Iris pairs the late 88-year-old filmmaker (who passed away on March 5) with Iris Apfel, the quick-witted, flamboyantly dressed 93-year-old style maven who has had an outsized presence on the New York City fashion scene for decades. More than a fashion film, the documentary is a story about creativity and how a soaring free spirit continues to inspire. Iris portrays a singular woman whose enthusiasm for fashion, art and people are life's sustenance and reminds us that dressing, and indeed life, is nothing but an experiment. Despite the abundance of glamour in her current life, she continues to embrace the values and work ethic established during a middle-class Queens upbringing during the Great Depression. 78 min.
