Screening | German Documentary: Angela Zumpe's Transit (2009)


May 1968: The student protests in West-Berlin are in full swing, and in the middle of it all, the protagonist's 21-year-old brother Reinhard. He openly flirts with socialist tenants, partly out of protest against our conservative father. Reinhard resolves to take drastic measures and relocate to East Germany – a complete scandal. It is the last we hear from him. Eight months later, in January 1969, Reinhard is found dead. His suicide is baffling. 80 min. In German with English subtitles.

The Comedy of Errors tells the story of two sets of identical twins that were accidentally separated at birth. Antipholus of Syracuse and his servant, Dromio of Syracuse, arrive in Ephesus, which turns out to be the home of their twin brothers, Antipholus of Ephesus and his servant, Dromio of Ephesus. When the Syracusans encounter the friends and families of their twins, a series of wild mishaps based on mistaken identities lead to wrongful beatings, a near-seduction, the arrest of Antipholus of Ephesus, and accusations of infidelity, theft, madness, and demonic possession. No tickets required; Just show up and choose a seat on the steps and benches.

Screening | Documentary: Steve Pelizza & Jason Hay's The Marble Faun of Grey Gardens (2012)


This documentary tells the story of Jerry Torre's colorful and tumultuous life before, during and after his time at Grey Gardens. Jerry's story unfolds as a classic American tale. A compromising childhood, then a dash for freedom leading him indirectly to Grey Gardens, a formative event in his life. Later awakening to his sexuality in the 1970's in New York City, going on to travel in Europe and the Middle East under unique circumstances, and sadly falling into some of the darker passions in life. Eventually pulling himself up and dusting himself off, he decides to heed a lifelong call to carve stone and discovers his love for the craft. Jerry Torre's sculptures help free him, and he fully develops into the beloved individual he is today. 80 min. Jerry has decided he is willing to share his experiences with us so we may be educated, inspired and perhaps even provoked. This promises to be a meaningful journey. Followed by a Q&A with Jerry 'The Marble Faun' Torre, Grey Gardens Director Albert Maysles, and a director of The Marble Faun of Grey Gardens.

The price of passage is spelled out in desperate, clown-like games--rituals that bring to imaginary life their parents, former clients, and lovers--in a struggle for identity that parallels the immigrant struggle to conquer the ghosts of the Old World.

Concert | Composers Concordance presents “Generations”


Composers Concordance, a presenting organization for contemporary music with a nearly 30-year history of cutting-edge concert programming in NYC, announces an unusual concert event. The event's theme is "Generations," and will feature the distinctive music of two composition competition winners: one composer age 20 or younger, and another composer age 70 or older. The ensemble will include members of B3+ and Manhattan Brass Quintet: Wayne DeMaine - trumpet, Franz Hackl - trumpet, John Clark - horn, Mike Seltzer - trombone, and Dave Taylor - bass trombone. The program will also feature music of Leo Kraft, Joseph Pehrson, Dan Cooper, Gene Pritsker, Milica Paranosic, and John Clark. The competition winners are: Kayla Jessop, age 20, for her composition 'Sunrise,' and Douglas Townshend, age 90, for his composition 'Dr. Jolly's Quickstep.' A light-fare reception will follow the concert.
