City Walk | Brooklyn Bridge, Brooklyn Heights and Dumbo Tour


This is a 3-hour tour that begins with a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge, an icon of New York City for over 125 years, with spectacular views of Manhattan and Brooklyn. The tour then moves on to a stroll of Brooklyn Heights, America’s and New York City’s first suburb. The tour then explores the neighborhood DUMBO before ending at the Fulton Ferry landing. This tour takes place every day at 10am.

Bushwick, in a working class district on the north side of Brooklyn adjacent to Williamsburg, has been attracting artists for some time now. The neighborhood has a fair collection of art studios and galleries, but it’s Bushwick’s industrial landscape that’s attracting the street artist. Screening | Choreographer Hijikata's original 1976 production of Costume en Face


A legendary figure in the history of art and contemporary dance, Tatsumi Hijikata (1928-1986) was the founding father of the radical dance form that he called Butoh. Some of his Butoh-fu notations remain largely in the form of notebooks transcribed by his disciples which were recently published by Ugly Duckling Presse, Costume en Face: A Primer of Darkness for Young Boys and Girls. One of the pieces in Big Dance Theater's new production Big Dance: Short Form is based on Costume en Face. The screening is followed by a discussion of the impact of Hijikata's work on artists and choreographers today with Big Dance Theater's Annie-B Parson and Paul Lazar, artist Aki Sasamoto, Butoh scholar Bruce Baird, and Ugly Duckling Presse editor Yelena Gluzman.

Opening Reception | Martin Wong's Voices: Works Concentrating on Poetry


Voices concentrates on Wong’s continuous association with language as the source of his artistic practice – echoed in the forms of poetry nurtured by his affiliation with the Nuyorican poets and fueled by Kufic manuscripts, Sanskrit calligraphy, sign language, astronomical constellations and graffiti. The exhibition includes more than 100 works concentrating on poetry scrolls and including paintings, drawings, ceramics, dog tags, illustrations, and publications dated from 1968 to 1999.

Clifton Anderson has a thrilling, swinging hard-bop style that he wields for maximum expressive power. Since receiving his first trombone from his uncle Sonny Rollins (with whom he has performed for decades), Anderson has been a member of the legendary Slide Hampton’s World of Trombones ensemble, released several acclaimed recordings, and worked with everyone from Dizzy Gillespie to Stevie Wonder to Paul Simon.
