City Walk | Yorkville Walk: A Microcosm of NYC Housing History

The Yorkville section of the Upper East Side may appear to be a forest of high-rise apartment houses built in the past 50 years. It is that, but this once-predominantly German area also contains a large number of tenements, some of them richly decorated. Yorkville, in fact, presents a microcosm of NYC's housing history. It includes working-class residential developments that were innovative architecturally, socially and in terms of public health. We'll also view Civil War-era row houses, a beautiful historic district, churches rooted in Yorkville's ethnic history and the park that includes Gracie Mansion, home to NYC's mayors.

Other | Album Release and Guided Meditation

Lou Reed’s final solo album, Hudson River Wind Meditations, is one of his most personal musical works, combining Reed's love of creating drone music with his passion for Tai Chi, yoga, and meditation. The album's ambient soundscapes have been described as a counterpoint to his intense album, Metal Machine Music—but they are similar outliers in Reed's 40-plus year exploration of drone music and feedback harmonics. Hudson River Wind Meditations marks the latest release in Light in the Attic's Lou Reed Archival Series. On March 2, on Lou Reed's birthday, Laurie Anderson and Eddie Stern offer a guided meditation, a Tai Chi demonstration, and Lou Reed Drones by Stewart Join thHurwood (with Sarth Calhoun). Registration required.
