Concert | 'Tamaduni Y Leyendas': Faculty Recital by Flutist Valerie Coleman

Flutist, composer and founder of Mannes' Ensemble-In-Residence Imani Winds, Valerie Coleman brings her creative force and collaborations to the stage for "Tamaduni y Leyendas," a stirring and eclectic celebration of vibrant “cultures and legends.” Starting with Debussy's "Syrinx," the program is a journey through folklore and history, made through contemporary music. Coleman's music is an epic journey on flute, from a cutting-edge musical poem about human trafficking in the historic Middle Passage with the "Wish" Sonatine, to a enlightening view into Langston Hughes memoirs with "Portraits of Langston." Composer Jeff Scott contributes his premiere of “Xango and Oya” for flute and jazz trio as the evening's global landscape crosses genres and boundaries. Guest artists will include members of Imani Winds, Luis Perdomo, Wilson Torres and School of Jazz Faculty member Alexis Cuadrado.
