Opening Reception | Paintings: Paul Campbell's Brooklyn Hybrids

Campbell’s approach to painting often uses non-conventional tools. He experiments with children’s toys, technological gizmos and gadgets to execute his compositions. Many of the newest works employ marks created with dollar store koosh balls. The resulting abstractions maintain a connection to the artist’s gestures, spontaneous or planned, and suggest elements of nature, reworks, portals into some unknown world, and influences of other cultures and traditions.

Opening Reception | Video works and sculptures

Guido van der Werve's Nummer zestien, the present moment investigates hyper-individuality as it shapes the ethos of the present. The hour-long three-channel video work focuses on moments of action involving intuitive reaction and impulse, rather than concerns with history or the future. Roger Hiorns' two sculptures feature engines coated with the organic compound copper sulphate, a chemical with an unpredictable reactive potential, which the artist has employed to transform mass-produced objects into aesthetic entities; a seemingly redemptive gesture exploring the opposition between the natural and man-made.
