Free Events, Free Things to Do in New York City!  Read More

137 free concerts take place New York City right now! In addition, Club Free Time members get free tickets to the concerts which are not free for general public, but are free for our members: when a producer wants that special buzz of the 'full house' at a concert - Club Free Time members are welcomed for their enthusiasm and sophistication! All they have to do is to login to www.clubfreetime.com and make a reservation.

As for the plethora of free concerts which take place in NYC year round, on weekdays and weekends, during lunch time, late afternoons and various evening hours: many people think that free concerts take place in NYC only during Summer, but nothing can be further from the truth.

Here are the numbers so you could see for yourself: about 1000 free concerts take place in NYC from mid-September to the end of May; and about 600 free concerts take place during the three Summer months (that 600 number excludes June's Make Music New York as on that single day more than 400 free concerts take place in NYC to celebrate Solstice).

As the number of free concerts per a summer month almost doubles the number of free concerts per month during other three seasons, you sure hear more about Summer free concerts.

In addition, Summer free concerts get more publicity, as such major popular concert series as New York Philharmoinic in the Parks, Metropolitan Opera Recital Series, Summer Stage and Celebrate Brooklyn all take place during summer months.

In addition, it's of course lots of fun to spend your lunch or your evening listening to the music you love and to picnic along, but your soul needs those nourishing sounds during other seasons as well.  So keep in mind that in New York City you can attend a free concert practically any day of the year, except maybe such major Hollidays as July 4th, Thanksgiving and the Christmas Day.

So please keep in mind that whether it's a weekday or a weekend, a holiday or just a regular day or a weekday night, you can alwasy count on Club Free Time when you want to listen to your favorite music, free of carge.

Concert | NY Philharmonic Musicians Celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month

The Musicians of the New York Philharmonic host a special afternoon of music in celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. This concert is part of their ongoing commitment to fostering community, inclusivity, and representation in the performing arts while amplifying the missions of partner organizations. Classical Music | Lute Works by Michelagnolo Galilei and his Contemporaries: Blending Italian Baroque and Brise (In Person AND Online!)

Richard Kolb, 10-course lute, performs a program of Michelagnolo Galilei and his contemporaries, focusing on pieces that elegantly combine features of the early Italian Baroque with the distinctive style developed by French lutenists commonly referred to as brise. This program will contrast Galilei's music with the characteristically Italian style of his contemporary Alessandro Piccinini, and the French music of Robert Ballard.Differences between Italian and French styles were endlessly discussed throughout the 17th century, but few attempts were made to combine features of both styles before the early 18th century, with Michelangelo Galilei's music was an exception.

It was first performed at the King's Theatre, London on 27 April 1720, a performance attended by King George I and his son, the Prince of Wales. Radamisto went unperformed for many years, but with the revival of interest in Baroque music and historically informed musical performance since the 1960s, Radamisto, like all Handel operas, receives performances at festivals and opera houses today.

Concert | Story & Song Performance with Broadway Alumni

Chris Peters and Madeline Benson each arrived in New York City with a passion for story and song. Benson soon made history as the youngest woman to conduct on Broadway when she served as a conductor for Sara Bareilles' Waitress. Peters quickly became a favorite performer at downtown spots like Rockwood Music Hall and Pete's Candy Store as well as a sideman and producer for a new generation of singer-songwriters. They first collaborated as arrangers, orchestrators, and performers for the late luminary Gavin Creel's Walk On Through. Since then, Benson has been tapped to adapt the upcoming stage version of Disney's Tangled alongside composer Alan Menken. Their performance will feature music from Benson's just-released freshman album, produced by Peters, selections from Peters' and Creel's catalogs, and other favorites from their folk and theater roots. There are two ways to access this event: 1. General Admission, first-come first-served. Just show up! 2. Fast Track, opening the Monday before the event at noon.

Jazz | Music on the Lawn: Jazzmobile Celebrates the Harlem Renaissance

Jazzmobile is proud to mark their 60th anniversary season with a music celebration of The Harlem Renaissance and National Endowment for the arts Jazz Master Jimmy Heath (1926-2019). Jazzmobile will bring that energy to the lawn with the Jimmy Heath Big Band. Everyone is sure to enjoy this evening of hard bop and swing - both, forms of, America's classical music jazz - under the evening sky! The Harlem Renaissance was a cultural, social, and artistic movement centered in Harlem, New York, during the 1920s and 1930s, celebrating African American culture, music, art, and literature. Jazz, big bands, and swing dancing were central to the Harlem Renaissance. It brought people together, and helped break racial barriers through music and performance. In the 1940's Heath became an important part of the Harlem Jazz scene and was deeply influenced by the legacy of the Harlem Renaissance and artists like Duke Ellington and Lester Young. Organizers lend out hundreds of free blankets on a first-come, first-served basis, or bring your own cotton or fleece blanket. There will also be pre-set chairs, or you may bring your own. To protect the lawn, please do not sit on waterproof materials such as plastic tarps, yoga mats, or inflatable chairs. Bring your own picnic or purchase food and drinks from tents on the side of the lawn.

Concert | Emmy-Winning Composer Adrian Younge and His 35-Piece Orchestra

Adrian Younge isn't just a composer--he's a sonic architect, a time traveler weaving together past and future through lush, cinematic soundscapes. An Emmy-winning composer, he's shaped the sound of modern music, whether scoring the cult classic Black Dynamite, crafting dusty soul loops for Wu-Tang Clan and Kendrick Lamar, or reshaping jazz history with Jazz Is Dead. His work pulses with deep intention, blending the raw grit of vintage soul with the grandeur of orchestral arrangements. Now, he's bringing his most ambitious project yet--Something About April III--to life with a 35-piece orchestra and special guests, performing not just the new album but also selections from the first two volumes of the April trilogy. A decade and a half in the making, this final installment cements Younge's legacy as a leading expert of psychedelic soul and orchestral storytelling. Kicking off the night is none other than J.Rocc, founder of the legendary Beat Junkies, setting the tone with an opening DJ set. This is more than a concert--it's a moment in music history. Be there to witness it first. There are two ways to access this event: 1. General Admission, first-come first-served. Just show up! 2. Fast Track opening the Monday before the event at noon.

Concert | Celebration of Women behind Celebrated Music: Ms. Bobbye Hall, Vanessa Carlton, & More

What's your favorite song? There's a good chance a woman played on it. This concert celebrates the women behind many of pop, rock, and soul's biggest successes: studio and touring musicians, women in bands, and artists who aren't only stellar singers but also killer instrumental powerhouses. From the classic rock and soul era, through the indie and folk hitmakers of the '80s, the Lilith Fair stars and backing band members for Missy Elliott in the '90s, onward to modern 21st-century innovators, women instrumentalists have always stood at the center of music. An all-star, all-women band of musical virtuosos--including Wendy and Lisa of Prince and the Revolution, Ms. Bobbye Hall (Marvin Gaye, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Nicks), Scarlet Rivera (Bob Dylan), and many more--will join music critic Ann Powers for an evening featuring an exciting cast of vocalists, as they interpret some of the great songs that women made memorable.

Classical Music | Minimalist Music Suite Exploring Freedom & Structure: New York Premiere

A New York premiere and co-production between AMOC* and Sandbox Percussion, Dutch composer Simeon ten Holt's Canto Ostinato feels like the long-lost cousin of beloved American Minimalist works like Steve Reich's Music for 18 Musicians or Terry Riley's In C. Encountering it for the first time is like meeting an unknown relative--you're struck by uncanny resemblances: the tilt of a nose, the rhythm of a laugh, echoes that stretch across time and space. With AMOC* members Matthew Aucoin, Conor Hanick, and Jonny Allen alongside Sandbox, Canto Ostinato radiates the warmth, spaciousness, and quiet luminosity of the best minimalist music. It offers both freedom and structure: a world shaped by softly chiming pulses and deeply satisfying harmonic shifts, where performers navigate personal interpretation within a familiar framework. For some, the piece may evoke the stillness of sacred music; for others, it feels like an invitation to collective meditation. Beloved in the Netherlands, where it premiered, Canto Ostinato holds a universal appeal that invites discovery far beyond its homeland--its patient, shifting light promises to resonate just as profoundly with audiences everywhere. There are two ways to access this event: 1. General Admission, first-come first-served. Just show up! 2. Fast Track opening the Monday before the event at noon.
