Symposium | Understanding Connections between Health and Art

The WHO reminds us that true health integrates physical, mental, and social well-being—a vision that cannot be fully realized without the arts. At a moment when empathy, scientific integrity, and human dignity feel increasingly fragile, the arts can provide essential nourishment—challenging assumptions, fostering resilience, and cultivating compassionate, connected communities.  This year's symposium will explore if and how participating in the arts can be understood as a health behavior, similar to sleep, nutrition, exercise, and time spent in nature.  Learn from researchers, practitioners, artists, and innovators in illuminating the transformative and intricate ways in which the arts and arts therapies enhance our minds, bodies, and communities.

Tour | Tour of Gracie Mansion, Home of New York's Mayors

In 1799, a prosperous New York merchant named Archibald Gracie built a country house overlooking a bend in the East River, five miles north of the then-New York City limits. Little did he know that, more than 200 years later, his home would serve as the official residence of the First Family of New York City - a place where history is made, not merely recorded. As a historic house museum run by the Parks Department, sitting on 11 acres of grounds now known as Carl Schurz Park, Gracie Mansion has served as the home of 11 mayors, beginning with Mayor Fiorello H. La Guardia in 1942. Each tour is one hour, followed by a 15-minute Q&A session with an assigned docent.

She has lived in and around NYC for over 40 years, performing and touring the world as a bandleader and soloist. Sue performs a seemingly endless repertoire of unusual material and reconceived standards, but Brazilian jazz and Latin jazz are her wheelhouse.
