Opening Reception | Elizabeth Molnár Rajec's Kaleidoscopic Photomontage

A unique photo collection of over thirty years features one-of-a-kind compositions which are of a conscious process reflecting reality as well as fantasy. With her unique montage method ordinary subjects often appear as abstracts and give a chance to free interpretations and associations. Her compositions reflect original images which must show a suitability to be put together in a unique way. Each picture can be montaged in multiple ways; that is why it is called kaleidoscopic. Each shows a different image or motion. The message from viewing her pictures tries to inspire that time goes by very fast and only the clicking of the camera at a given second captures a particular moment in our lives.

Concert | Momenta Quartet performs music by Julián Carrillo

The Momenta Quartet has been described by Time Out New York as a “striking new-music quartet,” but the quartet’s range goes far beyond a single form of music. Including over 40 world premieres by both established and up-and-coming composers, the ensemble’s repertoire includes classical standards, contemporary masterworks, and consort music of the Renaissance. Momenta approaches all of this music with equal passion and commitment; a new work by a young composer is given as much attention as a revered mainstay of the classical canon. Some of these emerging composers have received important grants, Rhodes scholarships, invitations to Darmstadt, as well as commercial recording contracts as a direct result of their work with the Quartet. The Quartet will perform seldom-heard string music by Julian Carrillo, a Mexican composer known largely for having developed a microtonal musical system he called "The Thirteenth Sound." An active violinist as well as a composer, he followed his early forays into microtonality with studies in Europe, returning to Mexico to become a proponent of his new sound theory.
