Tour | U.S. Custom House Tour


Join a Museum Ambassador for an in-depth look at the unique architecture and exquisite beauty of the Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House, home of the museum. Designed by famed architect Cass Gilbert and completed in 1907, the Custom House is a National Historic Landmark. The building’s interior splendor includes an elliptical rotunda with a 140-ton dome skylight designed by Valencia-born engineer Raphael Gustavino and murals by New York painter Reginald Marsh, as well as monumental marble arches and columns. Tours include a visit to the Collectors Office, not normally accessible to the public. The Collectors Office features woodwork by Tiffany Studios and can be seen on Boardwalk Empire and in films like Spike Lee’s Inside Man.

Opening Reception | Anya Gallaccio debuts new sculptures


For her third show wit hthe gallery, Anya Gallaccio will present new sculptures that draw upon the formal language of Minimalism including floor works that are variations on a cube. Composed of various species of stone from the western United States, including limestone, sandstone, and granite, these works demonstrate Gallaccio’s ongoing exploration of the states of natural materials. Anya Gallaccio (b. 1963, Scotland) attended Kingston Polytechnic and Goldsmiths College at the University of London. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including solo exhibitions at Tate London (2003); Palazzo delle Papesse, Siena (2005); Sculpture Center, New York (2006); Camden Art Centre, London (2008); and Artpace, San Antonio (2013).

Performance | Jessica Segall's 1/2 a cord: An Installation 'Campout'


Jessica Segall’s installation involves a very simple task rendered complicated in New York City. During the installation, Segall will be tending to a small fire in the center of the gallery. Visitors are welcome to stay, warm up and engage in conversation for any period of time. There is no formal behavior aside from general campsite rules. The campout begins at 6pm and lasts until the next morning at 10am. Jessica Segall is a multidisciplinary artist living in New York City. With a mix of humor and elbow grease, her work investigates the link between creativity and survival; engaging current cultural attitudes towards adaptation. Segall’s work has been exhibited at the 10th Havana Bienal, The National Gallery of Indonesia, The Queens Museum of Art, the Aldrich Museum, The Inside Out Museum in Beijing and The National Modern Art Gallery of Mongolia.

Since 2011’s fall he has been studying with Charles Neidich.
