Tour | NYC Marathon Walk


Brisk walkers only. Will walk most of the Marathon route, starting at 94th St. and 4th Ave., Brooklyn and ending outside of Tavern on the Green in Central Park, Manhattan, including 4 boroughs and 4 bridges. Total distance is not quite 24 miles but there are countless drop-off points. There may also be an optional “off-marathon” extension of the walk. Bring water and lunch (or will stop to buy). Bad weather cancels.

Workshop | Big City Fishing


Fishing in New York City? You bet! Each summer, Big City Fishing offers a free program, to those as young as five who are eager to learn both how to fish and about the Hudson River environment. They provide the rods, reels, bait and instruction. Beyond teaching fishing, the program also provides participants with a first-hand opportunity to learn about river ecology and the many fish species that can be found in the river. Participants can drop in a line and relax, or engage with environmental educators on such topics such as water quality, fish biology and more. A fun and educational experience, Big City Fishing offers city-dwellers a unique option for outdoor family recreation. Big City Fishing takes place every Sunday in September, 2015.

One Stop Down references a technical choice in photography to allow less light into the camera, which can increase depth of field, image sharpness and effectively convey intention. Some of this year's Expanding the Walls students have composed narratives that require more light to illuminate subjects or ideas, while others deliberately kept light from entering to offer dramatic readings of an image and invite viewers to construct their own stories.

Performance | Molly Surno's We of Me: A Choreographed Soundscape


This new performance by Molly Surno features twenty men using hand-crafted musical hair brushes. The performers, arranged in the center of the space, will prepare their hair with the amplified brushes. Surno and Brian Chase (of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs) will then mix the sound in real time as it is generated. These distortions will result in a meditative, repetitive, and layered composition.
