Discussion | Should We Ban Fashion Advertising? (online)

One of the main issues stopping clothing from becoming “sustainable” is the rate of consumption. Consumption has overtaken population growth as the biggest threat to the planet; people are buying more and more, as new fashion products are aggressively marketed to people on and offline. In light of the climate crisis, is it time to ban fashion advertising? In this panel discussion, we will explore this question by looking at what a world without fashion advertising would look like. Could this wean people from fast fashion and the planned obsolescence so virile within the contemporary fashion landscape? What would happen to the skills people have in this space? What would the media landscape look like? How would people develop their style when given space away from relentless marketing?

Performance | Muck Studies Dept N.O. Stars Found: Performance Art

Artist and musician Geo Wyeth presents this live performance, transmitted over the internet, including segments of a large-scale poem and theater piece that is currently under development. During the performance, Wyeth will move in and out of character, exploring the boundaries around the poem's key figure as well as the meeting point (and potential clashes) between theater and video as modes of engagement. The performance is a constellational body employing inherited diasporic/American funk and folk poetics, and techniques of investigative journalism. The project connects mud, water, metal, gas, ass, rocks, coins, extractive industry, deep coloniality, and sensual expression of belonging to that flood. The performance will be followed by a Q&A with the artist.  Geo Wyeth (b. 1984, NYC) is an artist and educator, working in the realms of music, performance, narrative sculpture, and video who lives and works in Rotterdam. Wyeth has shown work at the New Museum, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, MoMA PS1 (Greater New York 2016), Dutch National Opera, Triangle France, Anthology Film Archives, The Kitchen, TENT (Rotterdam), Arsenic (CH), Biquini Wax (CDMX), LA MoCA, New York Live Arts, The Studio Museum in Harlem, Boston ICA, La MaMa Theatre, Human Resources, The Pyramid Club, Joes Pub, and many others.

Discussion | Composer Francesco Corteccia (1502 - 1571): Weaver of New Musical Textures (online)

Explore the music of Francesco Corteccia (1502 - 1571) with an ear toward the innovative music textures he fashioned. Corteccia's choices convey color, mood and meaning with an expressive directness of which Puccini would have approved. This is a music listening and discussion group. Francesco Corteccia was an Italian composer, organist, and teacher. Not only was he one of the best known of the early composers of madrigals, and an important native Italian composer during a period of domination by composers from the Low Countries, but he was the most prominent musician in Florence for several decades during the reign of Cosimo I de' Medici.

In 1987, somebody shoved a flyer into the hand of Peter Staley: massive AIDS demonstration, it announced. That protest redirected the course of his life, and a week later, Staley found his way into a packed meeting of the AIDS Coalition To Unleash Power—ACT UP—in the West Village. His new memoir is the untold story of his journey from closeted Wall Street bond trader to one of the leading AIDS and LGBTQ rights activists of his generation.
