Park Walk | Veterans Day: Commemorating the Great War (virtual)


More than 2,800 Brooklyn residents were killed in World War I, and Prospect Park quickly became one of the borough's key points of remembrance and commemoration. On this virtual tour, you will explore some of the memorial sites in the park and the people they memorialize, including the striking 1921 memorial by Augustus Lukeman. You will also learn about the ways in which the park was mobilized and transformed as a result of the war.

Master Class | Orchestral Woodwinds with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra Musicians (virtual)


Principal flutist of the Seattle Symphony Demarre McGill hosts a program of video highlights from master classes for wind players, including two alumni of National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America. Flutist Karl-Heinz Schutz and clarinetist Daniel Ottensamer from the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra respectively share musical insights about selections from Brahms's Symphony No. 4 and the 1919 version of Stravinsky's The Firebird Suite. Bassoonist Simon Van Holen from the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra also coaches a young musician through a passage from Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4. Mr. McGill will be a live host throughout this online episode and will answer questions from audiences from home.
