Classical Music | Baroque Music (virtual)

Sarah Jane Kenner, violin, Adam Cockerham, theorbo, Jeffrey Grossman, harpsichord, and Matt Zucker, cello, perform works by Italian composer and violinist Giovanni Antonio Pandolfi. About the Composer Save for a few details surrounding his employment and likely involvement in a murder, very little is known about the life of Giovanni Antonio Pandolfi Mealli. He left behind a very meager catalog; his twelve violin sonatas, about half his total surviving output, are unique, inventive, and often bizarre in nature, offering a rare glimpse into Pandolfi's eccentric world and personality.

Staged Reading | Guards at the Taj: a Play by Pulitzer Prize Finalist (virtual)

In Pulitzer Prize finalist Rajiv Joseph's bold and arresting play, it is 1648 in India. Two Imperial Guards watch from their post as the sun rises for the first time on the newly-completed Taj Mahal -- an event that shakes their worlds. When they are ordered to perform an unthinkable task, the aftermath forces them to question the concept of friendship, beauty and duty, and changes them. Guards at the Taj had its world premiere with Atlantic Theater Company during 2014|2015 season. It won 3 Obie Awards and 4 Lortel Awards, including "Best New American Play" and "Outstanding Play!"

Opera | Met Opera: Rossini's Semiramide (virtual)

A rarely performed bel canto gem Rossini's Semiramide. Set in ancient Babylon under the reign of the mythic Queen Semiramis, the opera features political scheming, mistaken identity, divine intervention, and bloodthirsty revenge--not to mention one virtuosic vocal display after another. Soprano Angela Meade is the fierce title monarch, whose quest for power comes to a halt with the discovery that the object of her affection, the warrior Arsace--sung by mezzo-soprano Elizabeth DeShong--may actually be her long-lost son. Together, the two square off in a pair of dazzling duets and deliver some of the opera's most challenging arias, including Semiramide's famous "Bel raggio lusinghier."
