Tour | Tour of Gracie Mansion, Home of New York's Mayors

In 1799, a prosperous New York merchant named Archibald Gracie built a country house overlooking a bend in the East River, five miles north of the then-New York City limits. Little did he know that, more than 200 years later, his home would be serving as the official residence of the First Family of New York City - a place where history is made, not merely recorded. As a historic house museum run by the Parks Department, sitting on 11 acres of grounds now known as Carl Schurz Park, Gracie Mansion has served as the home of 10 mayors, beginning first with Mayor Fiorello H. La Guardia in 1942. Today, Gracie Mansion is occupied by the de Blasio family, which has opened its doors in the spirit of the administration's motto: one city, rising together. In keeping with that theme, Mayor de Blasio and First Lady Chirlane McCray have introduced a new art installation, titled “Windows on the City: Looking Out at Gracie’s New York.” Tours take place every Tuesday at 10am, 11am, 2pm, and 3pm until Dec. 12, 2017.

Dance Performance | BronxBerlinConnection: A Rap and Dance Performance

Since 2008, Gangway e.V. - Social Work in Berlin conducts a transatlantic youth exchange program, BronxBerlinConnection. Over the course of 9 years, what once was just a trip to New York with a group of young people from Berlin has grown into a transatlantic network for youth from disadvantaged social, economic and racial backgrounds that provides context for annual exchanges in Berlin and the Bronx. While the hip-hop culture served as the original platform for these exchagnes, today the program includes young people who participate through projects in visual arts, music, creative writing, poetry and political advocacy. This year BronxBerlinConnection brings to New York a group of young talented dancers and MCs, who will present a survey of various dance styles with rap elements.

Concert | Samora Pinderhughes: The Transformations Suite

The Transformations Suite by composer, pianist, and director Samora Pinderhughes is centered in the belief that there is a soundtrack to every revolution. The expansive work, which was released as an album in 2016 and has been performed at venues across the Americas, brings together music, theater, and slam poetry to examine the radical history of resistance within communities of the African diaspora. Continuing in the tradition of artists like Bob Marley, Duke Ellington, Marvin Gaye, Billie Holiday, and Tupac Shakur, the Suite connects contemporary issues, such as the prison industrial complex and the Black Lives Matter movement, with the history of revolutionary movements of color. A graduate of The Juilliard School, Samora has performed at the White House, MoMA, the Sundance Film Festival, Carnegie Hall, the Public Theater, and (le) poisson rouge, among other venues. He has toured internationally with artists including Branford Marsalis, Christian Scott, and Emily King.
