Talk | Undesign the Redline (online)

by Braden Crooks' Undesign the Redline is a framework for unearthing our most deep, systemic and entangled crises.   This interactive exhibit, workshop series and curriculum explores the history of structural racism and inequality, how these designs compounded each other from 1930s Redlining maps until today, and how WE can come together to undesign these systems with intentionality. The exhibit travels nationally to cities, towns and communities to learn together, activate and mobilize us into a strong “WE” capable of transformation. Connecting with urban design professionals, institutions, governmental and non-profit organizations, WE have been successful in changing policy including zoning and housing reforms, repairing historic harms, building community wealth, designing new programs and organizing around systemic change. Braden Crooks has over a decade of experience in leadership roles within the space of human-centered design. He is a founding partner at Designing the We, a for-purpose design studio supporting community, social and economic development. dtW are the creators of the nationally renown exhibit, Undesign the Redline. The dtW team designs plans, programs, policies and enterprises together with local communities, governments, institutions and organizations who are dealing with deep crises, from the history of Redlining to the future of work. Film | The Producers (2005) with Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick, and Uma Thurman

Failing producer Max Bialystock and his accountant, Leo Bloom, scam a group of elderly women out of their nest eggs by convincing them to invest in a horrendously offensive Third Reich-themed musical secretly intended to bomb the moment it opens. Director: Susan Stroman Cast: Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick, Uma Thurman Nathan Lane is an American actor. In a career spanning over 40 years, he has been seen on stage and screen in roles both comedic and dramatic. In 2010, The New York Times hailed Lane as "the greatest stage entertainer of the decade." Matthew Broderick is an American actor. His roles include the Golden Globe-nominated portrayal of the title character in Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986), the voice of adult Simba in Disney's The Lion King (1994), and Leo Bloom in both the Broadway musical The Producers and its 2005 film adaptation. Broderick has won two Tony Awards Uma Thurman is an American actress. She has performed in a variety of films, from romantic comedies and dramas to science fiction and action films. Gallery Talk | An Evening with Artist Jake Brush

An evening with Jake Brush, whose dynamic practice stretches popular culture tropes to their most absurd. Brush has chosen videos from the EAI collection by Alex Bag, Michael Bell-Smith, and Ryan Trecartin and Lizzie Fitch to screen alongside his work.  A former student of Bell-Smith, Brush sutures together the dizzying syntax of reality television, internet slang, drag sensibilities, and hometown lore to poke fun (and horror) at the dopamine-crazed tendencies of contemporary culture. In Petpourri (2023), Brush performs as a “genetic clone” of Marc Morrone, host of the titular Long Island public access show in which the local pet store owner advised live callers on animal rearing, simultaneously attempting to keep the peace between an assortment of domesticated animals. Laundry Detergent (Cheers!) (2023) stages a Real Housewives-esque interaction between three nouveau riche laundry detergent heiresses, each sporting a haphazardly pinned blonde wig and makeup smeared across their drooping synthetic skin. The video encompasses core facets of American reality TV: Egregious wealth, familial trauma and alcoholism, tactical self-mythologizing, bitter interpersonal conflict, and fleeting moments of human connection. Like much of Brush’s other work, both pieces draw from the artist’s childhood on Long Island, re-staging contemporary tragedies and family gossip in a setting where curious engagement precedes moral judgement.

Talk | Notes on Reality Art: An Evening with Signe Pierce

Signe Pierce is an American multimedia artist known for her work in the fields of photography, performance, and video. Her work often focuses on themes of identity, the body, and technology, and frequently features her own image in surreal and highly staged scenes which challenge societal norms and conventions. Pierce's highly stylized images and provocative lyrics aim to spark conversations which encourage self-reflection about what it means to be real in an increasingly simulated age. Pierce will provide an interactive and entertaining experience while in conversation with art writer Cassie Packard. Her video works and performances have been shown at MoMA, New York, Athens Biennial, Athens, Palais de Tokyo, Paris, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, and the New Museum, New York.
