Discussion | Discussion About New York State Legislation to Strengthen Holocaust Education (virtual)

The Museum of Jewish Heritage will present a virtual discussion with New York State Assemblymember Nily Rozic and New York State Senator Anna M. Kaplan about their proposed legislation requiring an audit of Holocaust education in schools throughout the state. The measure, which was introduced in January and has yet to come to a vote, would authorize New York’s Education Commissioner to study whether school districts are complying with State law and providing lessons about the Holocaust, and then report back to State officials. State education law requires that the Holocaust be taught. Moderated by Ben Max, Executive Editor of Gotham Gazette.

Talk | The Art of Being Indispensable at Work: Win Influence, Beat Overcommitment, and Get the Right Things Done

In today's high collaboration workplace, where you must deal with more and more people --- up, down, sideways, and diagonal --- the true go-to person is the closest thing to indispensable. Go-to people: make themselves incredibly valuable to others, maintain an attitude of service, are great at their jobs, take personal responsibility for getting the right things done, and build great working relationships every step of the way. To do all those things consistently and add value in almost every interaction, the secret is recognizing that over-commitment is the enemy. If you want to remain a true go-to person, for the long run, you must beat over commitment syndrome. In this program, Bruce Tulgan draws on the best practices of real go-to people in the real world to teach you how to be (nearly) indispensable at work.

Talk | Discussing a New Dance Work on Josephine Baker (virtual)

Playwright and actor Kirya Traber discusses the creative process of her new work on the life of Josephine Baker. World-renowned dancer and actor Josephine Baker not only broke barriers in the performing arts world for the many firsts she accomplished as a woman of color but as a social justice activist fighting for civil rights on both sides of the Atlantic. From aiding the French Resistance in World War II to speaking alongside Martin Luther King, Jr. at the March on Washington in 1963, Baker used her platform to effect change including making strides towards ending segregation in the US. This and more will be the focus for playwright and actor Kirya Traber as she creates a narrative of Baker's life to perform alongside the Orchestra of St. Luke's performance of Valerie Coleman's Portraits of Josephine.
