Gallery Talk | Israeli photographer Naomi Leshem discusses her exhibition Centered

Centered comprises 10 photographs, each of a solitary figure – five male, five female--placed in a challenging physical or psychological situation by Leshem. Each was thus forced to confront and cope with the difficult position by finding a sense of order and balance; they each find a way to be centered. While Leshem photographs the figures in stasis, this deceptive calmness is reached only after much struggle.

Performance | Performance Art: Alejandro Guzman

A special performance by artist Alejandro Guzman. Guzman is included in the current group exhibition "American Beauty." Guzman creates sculptures that double as performance objects. Informed by the idea of "creative misunderstanding" the artist builds mound or tower like forms whose surfaces are covered with natural man-made materials that express a global array of cultural influences. The sculpture and performances underscore absurdities and contradictions when layering cultural meaning. Guzman will be accompanied by artists Tre Chandler, Danielle Dean, Maya Jefferies, Nonhlanhla Kheswa, Jaeeun Lee and Geraldo Mercado for a thirty-minute performance.
