Jazz | Faculty Recital: Neal Kirkwood, Jazz Pianist and Composer


Neal Kirkwood is a composer, pianist, arranger and bandleader living in New York City. His ensembles include the Neal Kirkwood Octet, a "little big band" featuring some of the top improvisers in New York City. Experimental yet swinging, the Octet performs Kirkwood’s original compositions and arrangements of jazz standards. He also leads the Chromatic Persuaders, a quartet featuring violinist Mark Feldman, bassist Lindsey Horner, and drummer Tom Rainey. He recently debuted a new trio with Allison Miller on drums and Lindsey Horner on bass.

Touring the world in celebration of his 70th birthday, legendary classical guitarist Pepe Romero will perform his first and only all-Bach concert in NYC. Romero’s distinguished career, both as a solo performer and charter member of the "Royal Family of the Guitar," encompasses some 60 albums, multiple White House invitations, Carnegie Hall concerts, and world premieres by Rodrigo and Moreno Torroba, in addition to receiving a Knighthood by King Juan Carlos I of Spain.

Venezuelan-born singer Migguel Anggelo cut his teeth in the worlds of musical theater and opera. Bringing the outsized emotions of the theater to his more intimate performances and backed by a string band, Anggelo performs works by Latin American greats like Agustín Lara and Astor Piazzolla and original compositions that explore topics like Frida Kahlo and dictatorship. His most recent project, La Casa Azul, will be launched in early 2014.
