Hike | Garrison-to-Manitou Hike


9 miles at a moderate pace. A linear hike along one of the Osborn loops connecting into the Appalachian Trail. There it descends from Canada Hill into Manitou. Forested, rolling hills with climbs. At Manitou, follow Mystery Point Road northward for an extended shore view. Return is from the Manitou Nature Preserve trails back to Manitou Station for a 5:10 PM train. Bring lunch and water. MEET: Grand Central information booth in the ticketing areafor 8:47 AM train, round trip to Garrison, NY.

Slide Lecture | Art for the Synagogue


There are many ceremonial objects associated with the observance of Judaism in the synagogue from the Torah scroll with its beautiful textiles and silver to ritual furniture, including the ark and the reader’s desk. But these elements, so intrinsic to Jewish practice today, did not always exist. In an illustrated lecture, Dr. Vivian Mann (Jewish Theological Seminary) describes how these basic elements emerged, and how their design evolved over time to reflect the period and region in which they were created.

In the past, Latino immigration meant establishing roots in cities, but more recent immigrants sojourn in cities for a short time or bypass them completely by moving to the suburbs. Join Sherrie Baver, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science and Latin American and Caribbean Studies Program, CCNY and The Graduate Center – CUNY, as she examines the impact of Latino immigration. Screening | Special Screening in Observance of Immigrant Heritage Week and Earth Day


From its domestication in Mexico to its widespread cultivation, corn literally has been both "life" for many indigenous people of the Americas, and a primary Native American food that changed the world. The trek of corn through the New World, the threat of agribusiness to small–scale farmers in Mexico and to the indigenous strains of corn they grow, the use of corn in ceremonies that nurture language and culture, and the good spirits that come from good eating are all evoked in these films: Guardianes del Maíz/Guardians of the Corn, Na Florentina, The Gift, La Cumbia del Mole and Corn is Who We Are: Pueblo Indian Food.
