Video | Creative Time's 44 1/2: Video Art on an Outdoor Screen


At 44 1/2, Creative Time’s presentation of video art on MTV’s outdoor, gilded screen, will showcase the work of groundbreaking performance artist Marina Abramovic. Opening concurrently with her retrospective at The Museum of Modern Art, Creative Time’s presentation includes Light/Dark (1977), Rest Energy (1980) and Dissolution (1997). Ambramovic has influenced other artists for more than three decades. One of the videos will play at the top of the hour, every hour.

Screening | 68th Annual First Run Film Festival


First Run, New York’'s oldest continuous film festival, premieres the work of some of the country’'s top student filmmakers. This year’'s annual spring showcase will feature 113 advanced films, videos, multimedia, and animation projects. The films and videos compete for over $50,000 in cash awards presented by the Charles and Lucille King Family Foundation. In a departure from past years, First Run will announce the annual Craft Award winners at the daily screenings; each screening will have its own theme, title, and subtitle (3:30 – 9:30 pm blocks only); and the King finalists will be announced at the end of Festival at the Awards Ceremony and Screening. Screenings are open to the public. Screenings are at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 3.30 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m., and 9:30 p.m. The four days of screenings will culminate in the Wasserman Awards Ceremony featuring the Charles and Lucille King Family Foundation Awards and screening of the winning films.

Screening | Errol Morris' Documentary Standard Operating Procedure (2008): The Abu Ghraib Scandal


First revealed to the world through impromptu photographs taken by U.S. soldiers stationed within the facility, this documentary investigates the story and causes behind the Abu Ghraib prison scandal. Involving apparent wide-scale abuse and torture of prisoners, the photos forced attention on the decisions and actions that turned the once-notorious Iraqi prison into an even more notorious U.S.-run detainment center. One of the most dramatic moments in recent U.S. military history is examined through interviews with participants and dramatic reenactments. 116 min.

Concert | Germany’s ‘Jeremiah’: The Life, Times and Theology of Dietrich Bonhoeffer


A talk with music and dramatic reading in commemoration of the 65th anniversary of the martyrdom of Dietrich Bonhoeffer at the hands of the Nazi regime in Germany, Trinity Church will host an in-depth program that will examine this extraordinary man of faith. Bonhoeffer’s moral and ethical stand against the injustices and brutality of Hitler and the Nazis earned him, among many scholars and religious leaders, the name of “Germany’s Jeremiah.” Dr. Clifford J. Green, a well-known Bonhoeffer expert, will provide an overview of Bonhoeffer’s life and theology. Excerpts will be read from For Conduct and Innocents, a drama in verse loosely based on the years 1940-43 leading up to Bonhoeffer’s arrest, written by parishioner and vestryman J. Chester Johnson. Organist Robert Ridgell will discuss the words of Bonhoeffer that have become part of The Hymnal of 1982 and other books of music. Excerpts from Bonhoeffer’s writings, including Letters and Papers from Prison, The Cost of Discipleship, and Ethics, will also be read during the program.

Join a wine and cheese reception to celebrate the opening of Ticket to Jerusalem, the culmination of a clever yearlong mail art project that showcases the designs of artists who answered the call to design "the perfect airline 'ticket' to Jerusalem." The resulting boarding passes and airplane tickets, all created within 8" x 3" parameters, collectively form an image of the Promised Land that has long been sought out as a destination, whether for emigration, aliyah or pure pleasure.
