Gallery Talk | Discover a Museum Exhibition through an Artist's Eyes

See a museum collection through artists' eyes. Join artist and musician Joy Guidry as she discusses her creative practice, the deep love of storytelling that is embodied in her new works, and what inspires her in the exhibition Lorna Simpson: Source Notes. This exhibition of work by New York-based artist Lorna Simpson is the first exhibition to consider the entirety of her painting practice to date. Simpson came to prominence in the early 1990s with her pioneering approach to conceptual photography. Since then, she has produced works in multiple media that continue to probe the nature of images and how they construct meaning. Lorna Simpson: Source Notes focuses on a significant new development in her work of the last 10 years: paintings that advance her incisive explorations of gender, race, identity, representation, and history. Through more than 30 works, this focused exhibition presents a selection of Simpson's major paintings, including examples from her acclaimed Venice Biennale debut in 2015 and her celebrated series Special Characters, along with a recent sculpture and related collages. These works dynamically collide figuration and abstraction with bodies that emerge and disappear, peering from inky surfaces or dissolving into landscapes of melting ice. They use found images--the artist's "source notes"--to generate visual power, exemplifying Simpson's skillful blurring of genres.

Play | Shakespeare's All's Well That Ends Well in the Park (LGBTQ+ Pride Night)

"This is the way Shakespeare wrote his plays to be seen." -The Huffington Post Get swept up in one of Shakespeare's boldest romantic comedies with New York Classical Theatre! Written around 1604, All's Well That Ends Well is one of Shakespeare's boldest romantic comedies. When Helena--a brilliant, determined young woman--heals a king, she earns the right to choose her husband. But love isn't so simple, and she must use wit, courage, and a daring plan to win the life she desires. Full of humor, heart, and twists, this rarely performed gem is a story of love on Helena's terms. New York Classical Theatre's signature style, Panoramic Theatre, turns public spaces into the world of the play. Instead of sitting in one place, the audience moves with the actors from scene to scene, following the action as it unfolds. This immersive approach creates a dynamic, interactive experience where every performance is shaped by its surroundings. Celebrate love in all its forms with an inclusive evening of Shakespeare. Pride flags, queer joy, and free theater for all. 5:30 p.m. Pre-Show Happy Hour at VERS NYC.

Play | Shakespeare's Henry V in the Park

Henry V follows the young and newly crowned King Henry V of England as he seeks to prove himself a strong and legitimate ruler. The play begins with Henry’s claim to the French throne, based on ancestral ties, which the French reject. Insulted by the French Dauphin’s mocking gift of tennis balls, Henry launches a military campaign against France. The central action is the Battle of Agincourt, where Henry, despite being outnumbered and exhausted, delivers the famous “St. Crispin’s Day” speech to inspire his troops. The theater supplies 100 chairs nightly for the audience. Those chairs get snatched up fast though, especially at the end of the run or on beautiful summer days, so organizers advise that audience members wanting to use these folding chairs arrive 30 minutes before the start of the performance. You may bring your own chair or something soft to sit on. The theater almost never cancel due to rain, but if necessary, it will post updates on Facebook & Instagram.

Party | Silent Disco with DJ Bill Coleman

It's time to turn up the volume and get down! Dance on largest outdoor dance floor underneath our ten-foot disco ball. Experience music and DJs from around the world, spinning live straight to your high-fidelity headphones, distributed free on-site. From disco, deep house, pop, club hits, and everything in between, the hottest spot in NYC all summer long is at the silent disco. This evening's exclusive DJ, the legendary producer and owner of the eclectic music label and culture hub Peace Bisquit, Bill Coleman, will spice up the night with a celebration of all things disco. There are two ways to access this event: 1. General Admission, first-come first-served. Just show up! 2. Fast Track opening the Monday before the event at noon.
