Concert | Indie Sounds: St. Vincent / San Fermin

St. Vincent is the nom de guerre of Annie Clark, one of her generation’s most fearsome and inventive guitarists, an artist who seemed to arrive in the limelight fully formed when her remarkable debut album Marry Me came out in 2007. She followed that effort with the equally astonishing Actor (2009) and then the mind blowing Strange Mercy (2011). The orchestral folk-pop of the young Brooklyn composer and songwriter Ellis Ludwig-Leone’s project SAN FERMIN has turned a lot of heads since releasing its self-titled debut in the fall of 2013. The ambitious record ultimately included a string quartet, a brass quartet, and operatic sopranos. The live band is a more compact affair, but still expansive, and features the singers Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig of the band Lucius.
