Opening Reception | Final Words: A One-Night Exhibition


Marc Asnin, documentary photographer and creative director of Neverland Publications, presents the launch of Final Words, the publication company's inaugural book and travelling exhibition. Final Words is a collection of the final statements of the 515 inmates that have been executed by the state of Texas since 1982. The project seeks to focus on the humanity that remains at the center of the death penalty in America. The exhibition will be centered around a room where visitors are encouraged to sit in solitude as images from the series are projected with audio of the inmates final words playing concurrently.

Film | South African Documentary: Rehad Desai's Miners Shot Down (2014)


In August 2012, 34 striking mineworkers in Marikana, South Africa were gunned down in cold blood. While the police pointed their guns on the striking miners, the government of the African National Congress, once led by Nelson Mandela, pulled the trigger. The South African government has pursued pro-big business policies and rejected its own limited Freedom Charter. Miners Shot Down is a graphic demonstration of the responsibility of the government in this most heinous crime. The film includes exclusive footage of the Marikana massacre by ANC Police. 86 min. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with Margaret Kimberley, an Editor and Senior Columnist of Black Agenda Report and Marty Goodman, Socialist Action, former member TWU Local 100 Executive Board.
