This is a 3-hour tour that begins with a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge, an icon of New York City for over 125 years, with spectacular views of Manhattan and Brooklyn. Tour | Explore Castle Williams Tour


Castle Williams, the centerpiece of the system of fortifications designed to guard New York City just prior to the War of 1812, was long off-limits to the public. After an extensive rehabilitation project in 2011, the National Park Service opened the Castle to the general public for the first time in the fort's 200-year history. Tours of the Castle take visitors through all three levels and the roof run every hour on the half hour. Tours are approximately 30 minutes in length and require a free ticket. Tickets are available one hour before each tour begins, and may be picked up inside the Castle. Visitors are advised that tours require climbing three flights of stairs. The Castle's upper floors are not handicap-accessible.

During these limited hours, visitors can explore the normally closed sanctuary at their own pace along the rustic trail. See how the conservancy has restored this native woodland garden for birds and other wildlife. The wood-chipped trail is uneven; please wear appropriate shoes. This ecosystem is a protected area and home to many flora and fauna. No groups, dogs, bikes, or strollers. Free and self-guided. Space is limited.

Classical Music | Empire Viols Plays Trios: A Concert of Music for Viols and Harpsichord


Empire Viols borrows from organ and violin to explore the Baroque trio sonata, beginning with JS Bach and his student, Johann Ludwig Krebs. Enjoy a lovely work by English composer William Boyce, Vivaldi's G minor sonata from Opus 1, and a sonata by Christoph Willibald Gluck, composer of the well-known Orfeo ed Euridice. There's a Handel 'mash-up' of several pieces called Not a Sonata, music for harpsichord solo, and a duo for viols by Johann Schenck.
