Each exhibition, or chapter of her life, reflects her journey as she travels a road familiar to many. Jazz | Liz Childs Jazz

A native New Yorker, Liz Childs started singing early in school and in her father’s church, and her jazz education began with the flute, at Antioch College, in Yellow Springs, Ohio, where she studied with a member of the Cecil Taylor Jazz Ensemble, in residence at Antioch. Her interest in further exploring jazz and improvised singing was sparked when she was invited to participate in a workshop with avant guard Polish theatre director, Jerzy Grotowski’s theatre group. The group drew parallels between jazz vocal performance and the powerful theatre pieces they created out of improvised ritual and movement, and inspired Liz to embark on a search for her own voice.
