The exhibition will feature never-before-seen canvas oil paintings. Also exhibited will be a series of 18 tulle panels based on found images—gleaned from Instagram. İrfan Önürmen was born in Bursa, Turkey, in 1958. Önürmen has exhibited extensively throughout Turkey and in Europe, including the Istanbul Biennial, Turkey; Museuo Comunale d’Arte Contemporanea, Polignano a Mare, Italy; Akadamie Der Kunste, Berlin, Germany; Kulturdezernat der Stadt, Frankfurt, Germany, and others. Discussion | Teaching Pakistani History/Teaching Pakistanis History

Pakistani history has been a contentious topic, especially in Pakistan, where different sets of narratives give differing accounts of what Pakistani history is, and hence, how one imagines Pakistan. Given the eventual partition of British India into two states, some historians have claimed that Pakistan was created in 712 AD when an Arab invader came to an area which is now part of Pakistan. This event is incorrectly seen as the first Muslim contact with what is now called South Asia, yet it supports one of the many official narratives of when Muslim "consciousness" and identity were created in this region. Featuring: Manan Ahmad (History); Sana Haroon (University of Massachusetts, Boston); Tahir Kamran (University of Cambridge); Vazira Zamindar (Brown University).

Author Reading | David Goldhill discusses his book Catastrophic Care: How American Health Care Killed My Father - and How We Can Fix It

This talk explores the myth that Medicare and insurance coverage can make care cheaper and improve our health, and shows how efforts to reform the system, including the Affordable Care Act, will do nothing to address the waste of the healthcare industry, which currently costs the country nearly $2.5 trillion annually and in which an estimated 200,000 Americans die each year from preventable errors. The author proposes a completely new approach, one that will change the way one thinks about one of our most pressing national problems.
