You can take at least 13 free tours every day of the year, except the New Year Day, July 4th, and the Christmas Day. At 44 1/2, Creative Time’s presentation of video art on MTV’s outdoor, gilded screen, will showcase the work of groundbreaking performance artist Marina Abramovic. Opening concurrently with her retrospective at The Museum of Modern Art, Creative Time’s presentation includes Light/Dark (1977), Rest Energy (1980) and Dissolution (1997). Ambramovic has influenced other artists for more than three decades. One of the videos will play at the top of the hour, every hour.

Master Class | Master Class: Stanislav Pochekin, Piano


Pochekin was born in Russia and received his music education at the Gnesin Institute in Moscow under the tutelage of the illustrious Edouard Mirzoian and Theodore Gutman. Upon the completion of his studies he served as a professor at the Conservatoire in Sverdlovsk (Russia). In 1989 he was invited to Cuba where he became a professor at the “Instituto Superior del Arte” in Havana. Pochekin’s repertoire ranges from Baroque to the Contemporary. He performed with many major orchestras and worked with distinguished conductors such as M. Paverman, F. Glushenko, I. Lapinsh. R. S. Ferrers well as many others.

Owners of the Water: Conflict & Collaboration Over Rivers (2008, 30 min.) A collaboration between indigenous filmmakers (a central Brazilian Xavante and a Wayuu from Venezuela) and an anthropologist explores a campaign headed by the Xavante to protect the Rio das Mortes River Basin from the uncontrolled soy cultivation that brings deforestation and pollution to the watershed. The Xavantes' May 25, 2006 blockade of a national highway in Mato Grosso raises awareness of their concerns and builds support for their efforts. In Xavante and Spanish with English subtitles. Yukon Circles(2006, 30 min.) The 2300–mile Yukon River flowing through Canada and Alaska is threatened by pollution from military installations, mining, manufacturing, and settlement, and the tribes and First Nations develop a historic agreement to work together to protect it.

Concert | Early Romantic Songs of Schubert, Spohr, and Sor


Daniel Swenberg and Nell Snaidas will perform Music of Schubert, Spohr, and Sor. Swenberg, guitar, performs regularly with ensembles including: ARTEK, REBEL, Tafelmusik, Opera Atelier, The Metropolitan Opera, The Orchestra of St Luke's, Staatstheater Stuttgart, and New York City Opera. He has accompanied both Renee Fleming and Kathleen Battle at Carnegie Hall. Nell Snaidas, soprano, has been praised by The New York Times for her “beautiful soprano voice, superb sense of line” and “vocally ravishing” performances. Her career ranges from performing zarzuelas in Mexico to performing the music of John Adams with the LA Philharmonic. They will perform early Romantic songs by Franz Schubert (1797-1828), Louis Spohr (1784-1859) and Fernando Sor (1778-1839) for soprano with guitar accompaniment, in original 19th century versions. Mr. Swenberg will perform on a copy of an early 19th century guitar.
