You can take at least 13 free tours every day of the year, except the New Year Day, July 4th, and the Christmas Day. Festival | Common Silence: 8th Annual Zine and Photo Book Fair


The Zine and Photo Book Fair, entitled Common Silence, invokes the utopian notion of printed matter’s ability to enact social change through small-scale action to generate micro-policies. Through his selection of works, curator Mauricio Marcin questions how the gesture of fixing a word or image on paper has the potential to incite social change. In the last decade there has been a tremendous influx in self publishing throughout Latin America, particularly in Mexico. This is largely a result of artists utilizing independent publishing as a political and artistic platform for direct communications; thus allowing the self-published book, fanzine, and maquettes to function outside of commercial intermediaries and institutional entities and empowering artistic content to transcend traditional forms of production and dissemination. The selection of participants in the fair, all Latin American based, seeks to offer the public a concise overview of this multiplicity of editorial exercises, ranging from photography and contemporary art to poetry and literature.

Discussion | An art world icon talks about her love of reading


In this intimate conversation, one of the originators of the term Post-Blackness, Thelma Golden shares recommendations for the books that have inspired her throughout her life. Thelma Golden is Director and Chief Curator of The Studio Museum in Harlem, where she began her career in 1987. After a decade at the Whitney, she returned to the Studio Museum in 2000 as Deputy Director for Exhibitions and Programs, and was named Director and Chief Curator in 2005. In 2015 Golden joined the Barack Obama Foundation's Board of Directors. Golden will speak with Kaitlyn Greenidge, author of We Love You, Charlie Freeman, which was one of the New York Times Critics' Top 10 Books of 2016.

Jazz | Jazz re-imaginings of Leonard Bernstein’s music


The jazz trio reinterprets Bernstein's songs in an improvisational context through a different stylistic lens. The program will demonstrate the ways that jazz has evolved since these works were originally composed. The band: Pianist Zach Lapidus has performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands, the Indianapolis Jazz Festival, and the North Texas Jazz Festival. His playing has been featured on Voice of America and WBGO. He has performed with Dee Dee Bridgewater, Wycliffe Gordon, Claudio Roditi, Rich Perry, Corey Christiansen, Bobby Watson and others. Bassist Peter Brendler has performed at several in New York, and throughout the country including The Blue Note, Birdland, Smalls Jazz Club, The Jazz Standard, The Kennedy Center and. He has also perfromed throughout Europe and in Russia. He has performed and/or recorded with artists such as John Abercrombie and Rich Perry.
