Tour | Greenwich Village Neighborhood Tour

Greenwich Village is among Manhattan's most desirable and expensive residential neighborhoods. It's history, however, betrays it's monied status. The Village, with it's quiet, shaded streets, lined with lovely brick and brownstone townhouses, was once the incubating ground of artistic, social and political movements that have helped shape US history. From the Beats to the Folk Movement, from workers rights to gay rights, the Village has often been the center of it all.

Tour | High Line Tour

The area around the High Line Park was a vital business district of New York City, supplying fresh fruits, French Cheeses and Russian caviar as well as fresh meats to City markets. The hustle and bustle of the streets induced the City to elevate the railroad trains delivering goods to the commercial buildings. When interstate truck traffic made the railway outdated, it fell into ruin, only to be regenerated as a park.

Film | Mathew Ramirez Warren's We Like It Like That (2015): The Story of Latin Boogaloo

Reflective of the civil-rights struggles happening at the time, these scrappy teenage musicians openly challenged the powers that be and record labels representing buttoned-up Latin artists (who later collaborated to squash the movement). 81 min. Talk | Architecture for Health

Architecture for Health asks: How can an architect help advance health equity? Across the country, low-income communities of color are in a health crisis. New York’s East Harlem has an average life expectancy of 76. Directly south, residents of the more affluent Upper East Side live to an average of 85. Studies show a surprising correlation: the best predictor of our health is where we live. Exploring the potentials of health-centered interventions in the built environment, Karen Kubey will present work that brings together architects, policy and finance experts, and community leaders to promote greater health equity. Speaker Karen Kubey is an urbanist specializing in housing and health. She was the first executive director of the Institute for Public Architecture and co-founded both New Housing New York, the city's first design competition for sustainable and affordable housing, and the Architecture for Humanity New York chapter (now Open Architecture/New York).
