Workshop | Deep Yoga and Journaling

Sharyn Hahn lead you through some warm-up poses and a vinyasa flow as well as several short meditations, creative visualization, and intention-setting writing or sketching activities. You will leave feeling more flexible, relaxed, energized, with a mantra that you can carry with you throughout the week. Please bring a yoga mat if you have one, and they do have some if you need to borrow one for the class. Also bring a journal and something to write with. You will be writing a few times during the class, and if you prefer to sketch or want to do both, that is fine. Wear comfortable clothing, and feel free to bring a warm or cool drink to keep you hydrated (with a secure lid). All levels are welcome. If you have never done yoga you will be able to participate as well.

Bernstein’s marked scores from the New York Philharmonic Leon Levy Digital Archives will be projected in real-time. Between each symphony, special guests will read excerpts from Bernstein’s own writings on Mahler, and video clips of Bernstein talking about Mahler will be projected. The recordings were released on the Sony/Columbia label and recorded between 1960 and 1967 with the New York Philharmonic (Symphonies Nos. 1–7 and 9) and the London Symphony Orchestra (Symphony No. 8). For as long as any of us have been around, the canon — those books, plays, films and TV series — anointed as the most important of their kind — has been largely defined as white and male. This is a discussion on how we can make the canon more inclusive of women and people of color whose voices and experiences have been historically omitted from the cultural narratives.
