Even non-Arctic countries such as India, Singapore, Korea, and Scotland are significantly ramping up their engagement in the Arctic. The United States, by contrast, needs to be reminded that it is an arctic nation - we have all but ceded the region to other powerful actors. Climate change places an obligation on the United States not only to do what it can to prevent the effects of global climate change, but also to think through the challenges and opportunities presented by the warming arctic.
