Concert | Vox Fidelis performs Rovert White's Lamentations of a Forgotten School

Vox Fidelis presents a program of choral repertoire featuring works by Robert White. It is hard to over-estimate the genius of English composers Robert White and Robert Parsons who formed a sort-of "school within a school" between Thomas Tallis and William Byrd. While Parsons and White were not nearly as prolific as Byrd and Tallis, their harmonic idioms were some of the most innovative and astounding to ever come out of the renaissance. These two masters created tonal characteristics very seldom heard outside England herself, and deserve a much more prominent place at the renaissance table. Performers:  Allie Faulkner, Carey Hackett, Cathy Whitener, Diana Whitener; sopranos; Joseph Hill, Gloria Kierniesky; altos; Jeff Cutts, Kevin O'Malia; tenors; Les Anders, Dan Spratlan; basses; Timothy Smith, conductor.

Talk | New York’s World Trade Center 1973 / 2014

No building sums up the spirit of New York and the United States more than the World Trade Center — both the original structure and its new replacement. The story of the buildings is a tale of visionary men, technical prowess, and good old-fashioned New York bravado. This is a fascinating lecture that explores corporate America, power and wealth, and architects concerned with beauty and cutting-edge technology. Speaker Dr. Seth Gopin is a researcher-in-residence in the Wertheim Study and was the associate dean and director of Global Programs at Rutgers University. Following a 27-year career at Rutgers University, he served as the editor of newsTibet, the official voice of the Tibetan Government-in-Exile. Gopin writes and lectures on the American skyscraper, and is particularly interested in the skyscraper as an iconic image for American popular culture.

Jazz | The Andrea Veneziani Trio Featuring Ben Monder

Bassist and composer Andrea Veneziani performs extensively within the improvised music scene, across a broad spectrum of genres. His instrumental tone, sensitivity and imagination, and melodic approach to a supposedly clumsy instrument brought him to perform and record with many established musicians. Based in New York City, his work as an instrumentalist and composer can be regularly heard at the top jazz clubs of the city. He also frequently tours festivals around the globe, particularly throughout Europe and America. He will perform with renowned guitarist Ben Monder and drummer Mark Ferber. The program will feature compositions by Veneziani recorded on his debut album Oltreoceano, as well as some new tunes written more recently, as well as standards of the jazz repertoire.
