A talk with Jennifer O'Callaghan, the author of Rear Window: The Making of a Hitchcock Masterpiece in the Hollywood Golden Age. Alfred Hitchcock called his audience a race of Peeping Toms, and with Rear Window, he proved it. Drawing on the original papers of Hitchcock, Jimmy Stewart, and Grace Kelly, and featuring exclusive interviews with the families and collaborators of those who made the film, Jennifer O'Callaghan's book reveals the fascinating, outrageous, and deeply human story behind one of Hollywood's greatest achievements. Scott Adlerberg is the author of five novels, including Graveyard Love, Jack Waters, and The Screaming Child. This event is a special event featuring the full screening of the documentary Hacia el camino de la abadia, followed by a piano recital by Spanish pianist and composer Tito Garcia Gonzalez, presenting a selection of original works from his latest album, recorded in the legendary Studio Two at Abbey Road Studios, London. The documentary tells the inspiring story of a lifelong Beatles fan who fulfills his dream of recording where it all began for The Beatles--at the world-famous Abbey Road Studios. The recital continues that journey through contemporary classical music inspired by the concept of Musical Transmodernity, bringing together tradition, lyricism, and a distinctive contemporary compositional voice. An examination of racial inequality and the failure of communication in an increasingly diverse modern landscape. Director: Michael Haneke Cast: Juliette Binoche, Thierry Neuvic, Alexandre Hamidi, Hélène Diarra Michael Haneke is a German-born Austrian film director and screenwriter. His work often examines social issues and depicts the feelings of estrangement experienced by individuals in modern society. Haneke has made films in French, German, and English and has worked in television and theatre. He won the Cannes Film Festival's Grand Prix for The Piano Teacher (2001) as well as its Palme d'Or twice, for The White Ribbon (2009) and Amour (2012), the latter of which received five Academy Award nominations and won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. This event provides the equipment, instruction, and oversight you need to experience a safe and fun afternoon of kayaking on the Hudson River. The program is beginner-friendly, and no prior experience is required. Participants must be at least 18 years old (or accompanied by a parent or guardian) and know how to swim. Come dressed to get wet! Lockers and locks will be provided to keep valuables dry, and on-site changing rooms will be available for use. To save time, you can also sign a waiver before arriving to save time, available at the link provided. Be sure to allow time for waiting in line when planning your visit. You may not get a chance to kayak if you arrive less than an hour before the boathouse closes.
