Workshop | Embroidery with Social Commentary Workshop: Slow, Shared Practice
Artist Cinthya Santos-Briones invites you to participate in a collective embroidery workshop and stitching circle that explores contemporary narratives of migration in the United States. Participants will embroider phrases drawn from news reports, headlines, and press archives related to the current anti-immigrant political climate. Through the slow, shared practice of embroidery, the group will transform words designed for immediate media consumption into a space for dialogue, critical reflection, and collective witness. Inspired by Chilean arpilleras, Mexico’s Bordados por la Paz collectives, and other Latin American practices that have used textiles to denounce state violence and forced disappearances, the project approaches embroidery as a tool for memory, collective witness, and community repair. The workshop will be co-facilitated by María José Prudente, a Mixtec Indigenous embroiderer, language rights advocate, attorney, and interpreter in immigration courts. All materials will be provided, and no prior embroidery experience is required. The workshop will be bilingual (Spanish and English).

This event provides the equipment, instruction, and oversight you need to experience a safe and fun afternoon of kayaking on the Hudson River. The program is beginner-friendly, and no prior experience is required. Participants must be at least 18 years old (or accompanied by a parent or guardian) and know how to swim. Come dressed to get wet! Lockers and locks will be provided to keep valuables dry, and on-site changing rooms will be available for use. In a fantastical dream, the dentist enters a surreal world where dancing teeth, an activist Tooth Fairy, and a chorus of very “patient” patients battle the moral decay threatening America’s ideals. With ICE agents emerging from giant cavities as symbols of fear and division, the dentist envisions a quest to “root out” hatred instead of people. A brigade of unlikely heroes invokes the nation’s immigrant heritage–from its earliest settlers to generations of newcomers–celebrating America’s diversity, compassion, and shared humanity. The historic wisdom of the United States promises a future in which the cavities of war are filled with hope and the promise of cooperation and peace. The community awakens from its nightmare inspired and unites to protect its neighbors and secure the child’s release. The music will vary in style from Bossa Nova to Hip Hop to Musical Comedy to classical Cantata. The play is a bouncy joyride through the undulations of the body politic, with astute commentary couched in satire, song, and slapstick. Book, lyrics, and direction by Crystal Field. A family heads to an isolated hotel for the winter, where a sinister presence influences the father into violence. At the same time, his psychic son sees horrifying forebodings from both the past and the future. Director: Stanley Kubrick Cast: Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall, Scatman Crothers, Danny Lloyd Stanley Kubrick was an American film director, screenwriter, producer, and photographer. Widely considered one of the greatest filmmakers of all time, his films were nearly all adaptations of novels or short stories, spanning a number of genres and gaining recognition for their intense attention to detail, innovative cinematography, extensive set design, and dark humor. While many of Kubrick's films were controversial and initially received mixed reviews upon release, most were nominated for Academy Awards, Golden Globes, or BAFTA Awards, and underwent critical re-evaluations. Jack Nicholson is an American retired actor and filmmaker. Nicholson is widely regarded as one of the greatest actors of the 20th century. Throughout his five-decade career he received numerous accolades, including three Academy Awards, three BAFTA Film Awards, six Golden Globe Awards, and a Grammy Award. He also received the American Film Institute's Life Achievement Award in 1994 and the Kennedy Center Honor in 2001. Shelley Duvall was an American actress and producer widely known for her portrayal of distinctive, often eccentric characters. In the 1980s, Duvall became famous for her leading roles, which include Olive Oyl in Altman's live-action feature version of Popeye (1980) and Wendy Torrance in Stanley Kubrick's horror film The Shining (1980).

Concert | Trio of Rising Latin Hip-Hop Artists in the Park
Three Latin artists take the stage. Of the various figures in the red-hot Argentinian rap scene, one is Trueno, the son of Uruguayan rapper Peligro and a veteran of the scene's battle rap circuit. He's released several solo albums, collaborated with the likes of Bad Gyal, Feid, and J Balvin, and is responsible for one of the Argentinian rap scene's biggest hits in 2020's "Mamichula." He's joined by Milo J, who leveraged his viral hit "Milagrosa" into collaborations with Nicki Nicole, Duki, and Peso Pluma. His latest LP, La Vida Era Mas Corta, saw him take a hard left turn into art-pop, fusing Argentine folklore with urban and experimental sounds. Opening the show is the dynamic Dominican rapper J Noa, a nimble-tongued MC with a rapid-fire flow who gave a well-regarded NPR Tiny Desk performance, her first outside of her own neighborhood in the Dominican Republic.

As part of the exhibition Living in Sanctuary, artist Cinthya Santos Briones and scholar Michelle Castañeda, author of Disappearing Rooms, will engage in a conversation. They will discuss migration, sanctuary, and the role of art in a political climate shaped by increasingly restrictive immigration policies. Drawing from Living in Sanctuary, a documentary and artistic research project developed since 2017, they will reflect on the experiences of refugees, asylum seekers, and sanctuary communities, as well as the networks of solidarity and collective organizing that challenge policies of exclusion and deportation. The conversation will be moderated by Amy Goodman, award-winning journalist and host of Democracy Now!
