Another example of an event that you can attend all year round on weekdays is Federal Reserve Bank Tour, which takes place every week day at 1 pm (but advanced reservations are required). You can take at least 13 free tours every day of the year, except the New Year Day, July 4th, and the Christmas Day. Talk | Wounds into Wisdom: Healing Intergenerational Jewish Trauma (online)


Jewish lineage has accrued much wisdom over the past 3,000 years and many wounds, too, after centuries of adversity. Recent studies in the fields of neuroscience and epigenetics demonstrate that our traumatic experiences stay with us and are often transmitted to future generations. As we emerge from Tisha B'Av, a time of grieving, join Rabbi Dr. Tirzah Firestone for a talk delving into this, and exploring the journey of culling family and tribal legacies for their positive, life-giving gifts and facing the detrimental patterns we have inherited, in order to dissolve and repair them. Reb Tirzah will draw on stories and research from her award-winning book, Wounds into Wisdom: Healing Intergenerational Jewish Trauma. Rabbi Tirzah Firestone, Ph.D., is an author, Jungian psychotherapist, a leader in the international Jewish Renewal Movement, and a renowned Jewish scholar and teacher.

A conversation between artist Portia Munson and Art Omi’s chief curator Sara O’Keeffe in conjunction with Munson’s current solos exhibitions. For over three decades, Munson has created maximal installations, sculptures, paintings, and digital prints using a vast accumulation of ready-made consumer products to decipher the latent cultural codes embedded in mass-produced items. This conversation will explore Munson’s visual examination of the impact of mass production on the formation of identity and its connections to the ongoing struggle for gender equality and mounting ecological crisis.

Concert | Dance Soul Band Thats's Worked with Beyonce, SZA, and Lorde


People’s Champs is inspired by the idea that music is for everyone. The band combines a creative blend of analog and digital production, songwriting that cuts to the core of the human experience and unstoppable dance rhythms to create a truly original sound. With influences as wide-ranging as Sharon Jones, tUnE-yArDs, William Onyeabor, and Prince, critics are calling People’s Champs “A dance party waiting to happen” (Consequence of Sound) and "...somewhere between Budos Band & the Flaming Lips" (Deli Magazine). The band features experimental soul singer Starr Busby, best known for her work with Gorillaz and Esperanza Spalding. People’s Champs’ horn section works in-studio with Beyoncé Knowles and performed/arranged key parts on the Grammy Award-winning song “Love on Top.” They also tour with Boy George & Culture Club. Members of People's Champs have also performed with artists including Lorde, SZA, Moses Sumney and other notables.

In this lecture, David Gellman explores the contradictions of the Jay family’s attitudes toward slavery over multiple generations. Enslaved and formerly enslaved people living in Jay households experienced isolation, even as members of the Jay family took increasingly radical approaches to law, policy, politics, and advocacy, culminating in John Jay’s signing of An Act for the Gradual Abolition of Slavery in 1799 as Governor of New York, which helped bring about the emancipation of enslaved people in New York in 1827. Gellman aims to bring new light and a fresh understanding of the Founder’s legacy.

Dance Performance | 5 Iconic NYC Dance Companies


Five of NYC's most iconic dance companies--Ballet Hispanico, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, and Dance Theatre of Harlem--share the spotlight and an outdoor stage with dancers and pieces from across the companies. Participants: One for All, World Premiere Lincoln Center Commission by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, featuring dancers from each of the five companies, is set to Manteca by Funky Lowlives/Dizzy Gillespie. Ballet Hispanico - Con Brazos Abiertos by Michelle Manzanales Michelle Manzanales explores with humility, nostalgia and humor the iconic Mexican symbols that she was reluctant to embrace as a Mexican-American child growing up in Texas. Intertwining folkloric details with a distinctly contemporary voice in dance, set to music that ranges from Julio Iglesias to rock en Espanol, Con Brazos Abiertos is a fun and frank look at a life caught between two cultures. New York City Ballet - Red Angels by Ulysses Dove A dynamically charged, abstract work, Red Angels highlights the power and athleticism of its four dancers through bold choreography, intense lighting, and a riveting score for electric violin. Created for New York City Ballet's Diamond Project in 1994, Red Angels was the first work created for NYCB by the late choreographer Ulysses Dove. An abstract work for four dancers, Red Angels is set to Richard Einhorn's "Maxwell's Demon", a solo for electric violin performed by innovative American violinist Mary Rowell. American Ballet Theatre - Children's Songs Dance by Jessica Lang A work for seven dancers, Children's Songs Dance by Jessica Lang takes its name from the music. Set to selections from Children's Songs by the late American jazz composer Chick Corea, the ballet was created on ABT Studio Company in January 2020 during a residency at The Pocantico Center in Tarrytown, New York. According to Lang, Children's Songs Dance "draws its inspiration from the transition in life between being a child and becoming an adult, with the goal of never losing the spirit of play." Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater - Love Stories finale by Robert Battle Choreography: Robert Battle Music: Stevie Wonder Love Stories was Artistic Director Emerita Judith Jamison's dynamic collaboration with hip-hop pioneer Rennie Harris and Robert Battle. Inspired by the African concept of "Sankofa," which teaches that "we don't know where we are going unless we know where we have been," this extraordinary ballet celebrates the heritage of African-American dance and the rich legacy of Alvin Ailey. In the ballet's joyful third section choreographed by Robert Battle, which is presented as a standalone piece, the choreographer portrays a luminous future built on the lessons and legacy of the past, with a forceful push forward. Dance Theatre of Harlem - Return by Robert Garland Dance Theatre of Harlem's Resident Choreographer Robert Garland deploys his signature "post-modern urban neoclassicism" to magnify the soulful exuberance of the music of James Brown and Aretha Franklin thereby creating a ballet that is pure joy to behold.
