This interdisciplinary workshop brings together specialists in drama, theater, and opera to explore the dynamic exchanges that shaped performance culture in seventeenth-century Italy and France. Rather than treating the two traditions in isolation, experts ask what was gained, lost, or transformed in transit — as performers, repertoires, staging practices, and musical forms moved across political and linguistic borders. The conversation will range from questions of theatrical machinery and scenic design to the training and itineraries of singers and actors, from the circulation of librettos and scores to the institutions that welcomed or resisted foreign influence. A dedicated listening component will invite participants to engage directly with the music under discussion, grounding the historical and critical conversation in sound.
