Lecture | Philosophy Scholar Explores "Fascist Passions" throughout History (In Person AND Online!)

Judith Butler (Distinguished Visiting Professor of Philosophy at The New School and Distinguished Professor in the Graduate School at the University of California, Berkeley) explores "fascist passions". Fascist passions change historically. Yet some common features permit for them to be called fascist. The specific forms of sadistic exhilaration and revenge in operation now are passions undergone at psychic levels both involuntary and voluntary. They are also passionate reactions against social and legal movements and legal accomplishments that seek a restoration to forms of social hierarchy and exploitation (white supremacists, heteronormative, unrestrained capitalism).

Dance Performance | Shapes of Change: Dance, Climate, and the Natural World

For 25 years, choreographer Jody Sperling and her ensemble have created spectacles exploring the relationship between the human body and nature. This two-night event celebrates their anniversary with a world premiere and repertory favorites featuring live music.  The performances utilize transformative costumes and movement inspired by Loie Fuller to visualize elemental forces, from rising sea levels to atmospheric patterns.

Performance | //shrouded\\: Multi-Genre Living Poem Exploring Memory & Transformation

In this performance, multi-spirited Nigerian American choreographer, author, performance artist, and curator jaamil olawale kosoko's award-winning work is rooted in a complex interdisciplinary practice that merges theater, video, sculpture, and the exploration of queer Black theory. Their new work, //shrouded\\, is a living poem and performative ceremony that recasts the body as an archive of memory and transformation. Performed by kosoko and their ensemble of visionary collaborators, //shrouded\\ unfolds in a shifting veil of silks that conceal and reveal states of metamorphosis. As performers slip between presence and absence, mourning and joy, figure and shadow, kosoko dares to ask what it means to choose to go unseen—in an age shaped by surveillance and spectacle. A unique mash up of poetry, sound, and movement, //shrouded\\ invites audiences into the communal act of reimagining the future. This is a work in development performance. There are two ways to access this event: 1. General Admission, first-come first-served. Just show up! 2. Fast Track opening the Monday before the event at noon.
