Concert | Jamaican-Style Sound Clash

This kind of competition between DJ crews for soundsystem dominance has long been a cornerstone of the island's sonic culture, with roots that stretch back to 1950s Kingston. The basic format has remained over seven decades: Two or more soundsystem crews—which typically include at least one selector and deejay (the Jamaican equivalent of an MC)—battle for crowd favor by playing both classic tunes and dubplates alongside the newest or most original reggae and dancehall tunes. Curated by Jive Poetic, this sound clash on the dancefloor features three soundsystems in competition: GT HIFI, King Civic Sound, and SOUNDPLEX. The evening will open with a set by Rico Frederick and DJ Paco from BKHP.  There are two ways to access this event: 1. General Admission, first-come first-served. Just show up! 2.
