Talk | From Criminal Justice to Human Justice

A talk by Kyung-Ji Kate Rhee, Juvenile Justice Director. Rhee: "I begin with the premise that one cannot achieve justice when the starting point is 'criminal.' However, when our starting point is 'human,' our pathways of inquiry, understanding, and imagination are necessarily different and illuminating. Subsequently, I would like to talk about what it means to shift our paradigm of safety and justice from one of criminal justice to human justice and how we can enact it in our daily lives."

Gallery Talk | Gallery Tour: Under Another Name

This show considers work in multiple media, focusing on the relationship of various genres and media to one another. Here, ephemeral sculptures are captured as photographs; letterpress prints invoke the aesthetics of video; performances are recorded as drawings; sound is captured in objects; and photographs are abstracted into paintings. Rather than privileging one medium over another, the exhibition looks at their interdependence and what happens when a work is understood through the context of a new medium.

Film | Documentary: Ryan Murdock's Bronx Obama (2014)

When Louis Ortiz shaved off his goatee one day in 2008, his life changed forever. He looked in the mirror and he didn't see himself - a middle-aged, unemployed Puerto Rican father from the Bronx. He saw the face of change, of hope... of money. Bronx Obama tells the strange and improbable tale of a Barack Obama impersonator who tries to cash in on the "look of a lifetime" and chases a fevered American dream from opportunity to oblivion. 92 min. There will be a Q&A with director Ryan Murdock and the subject of Bronx Obama, Louis Ortiz, following the screening.
