Performance | Tamy Ben-Tor's New Performance Work

Says the artist: "My consciousness is a sponge absorbing all of contemporary filth. The artistic process for me, in the form of a performance, is to solidify this sponge into a hard stamp tool and press it back onto the audience's consciousness for the duration of the performance. At the end, I hope they come out of it stained, impressed, as I am, by the ailments of this time which we live in." Tamy Ben-Tor was born in Jerusalem and currently lives and works in New York City. She has had solo shows at the Moderna Museet, Stockholm; Atlanta Contemporary Art Center; Kunsthalle Winterthur; and Cubitt, London. Ben-Tor has also participated in exhibitions at ZKM, Karlsruhe; Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia; Biennale of Sydney; Manifesta 7; Mori Museum, Tokyo; MoCA, Los Angeles; Reina Sofia, Madrid; as well as the PERFORMA 05 and PERFORMA 07 Biennials, New York.

Screening | Korean Film: Hong Sang-soo's Oki's Movie (2010)

Documentary and narrative filmmaking elegantly merge in Oki's Movie, a quartet of interlocking vignettes by Korean auteur director Hong Sang-soo and one of the most elegant films of his oeuvre. A young woman hikes Seoul's Mount Acha twice, accompanied by different boyfriends: one a fellow student, the other a professor. She documents the trips and then edits together corresponding locations on the mountain: the parking lot, a small pavilion, a wooden bridge; her juxtapositions are revelatory, both of her relationship with each and of the power of cinema.

Concert | Earthdriver, Genre-Defying Group

As much a political movement as a band, genre-defying music collective Earthdriver has performed its hybrid mix of rock, soul, world beat, and hip-hop at sold-out benefits for political prisoners and for victims of police brutality. They’ve also been found alongside greats as diverse as Peter Gabriel, Mos Def, and James “Blood” Ulmer—yet another testament to their wide-open musical and political minds.

Performance | The Improvised Musical: 3rd Year Celebration

Three years ago, a band of 6 weirdos formed a musical improv group, and they're still going strong. So in honor of turning 3, they want to celebrate with a jam-packed show filled with one of NYC's most innovative improv groups, freestyle rap superstars North Coast, and one of the newest, Air Van Gogh. They'll be joined by special host Amber Nelson (Maude Team: The Prom), and they might just be baking a cake to celebrate! Dumpster Tequila consists of strong improvisers and musicians. They create interesting musicals that explore game and narrative by subverting and celebrating the tropes of musical theatre. They don't focus on tying up our narrative with a nice bow at the end; they try to create realities and flesh them out as much as possible while following the fun in the scenes and the music.
