Dance Performance | Modern Dance Live on Stage (live-streamed, virtual)

Choreographer Molissa Fenley's celebrated solo work State of Darkness, performed by Annique Roberts of Ronald K. Brown/Evidence (blend of modern dance, Senegalese Sabar and Afro-Caribbean dance). Originally commissioned by the American Dance Festival in 1988, the work challenges Stravinsky's cacophonous "Le Sacre du Printemps" (The Rite of Spring) with an intense 35-minute solo performance of relentless fervency, technical precision, and fearless abandon. Adapting her creative process to our emergent world of social distance, Fenley restaged her solo individually with seven acclaimed dancers whose performances will be live-streamed.

Opera | Alice in the Pandemic: Lewis Carroll's reimagined timeless story (virtual)

Alice in the Pandemic takes a deep dive down the rabbit hole into the elasticity of time, the unmooring of life, the heroism of doing one's job, and the reconciliation of mother and daughter. This version of the timeless classic follows the nurse Alice as she navigates her way through a distorted and unfamiliar landscape to find her sick mother. The production uses newly developed technology that enables singers at remote locations to sing synchronously together as they interact with each other and their 3D avatars who lip sync in real time to live performance. Written by Cerise Lim Jacobs and composed by Jorge Sosa. Featuring Carami Hilaire, Eve Gigliotti, Daniel Moody and VOICES Boston.

Opera | The Met Opera: Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier (virtual)

Ever since her first Met performances as the Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier in 2000, Renee Fleming has been celebrated as one of the most compelling interpreters of the role. In this 2017 production, the silver-voiced American soprano sings her final performance as the elegant princess coming to grips with the persistent passage of time. Mezzo-soprano Elina Garanca delivers a commanding portrayal as Octavian, the title "Knight of the Rose" and the Marschallin's impetuous young lover, in Robert Carsen's madcap new production--which sets the action in 1911, the year of the work's premiere. As the plucky young heiress Sophie, Erin Morley sings with a radiantly beautiful soprano, while bass Gunther Groissbock offers a larger-than-life portrayal of Baron Ochs auf Lerchenau, the outlandish nobleman lusting after every woman in sight. Maestro Sebastian Weigle leads a buoyant account of Strauss's beloved score, which incorporates Viennese waltzes, raucous comedy, and the composer's characteristically vivid palette of orchestral color.
