Workshop | Deep Yoga and Journaling


Sharyn Hahn lead you through some warm-up poses and a vinyasa flow as well as several short meditations, creative visualization, and intention-setting writing or sketching activities. You will leave feeling more flexible, relaxed, energized, with a mantra that you can carry with you throughout the week. Please bring a yoga mat if you have one, and they do have some if you need to borrow one for the class. Also bring a journal and something to write with. You will be writing a few times during the class, and if you prefer to sketch or want to do both, that is fine. Wear comfortable clothing, and feel free to bring a warm or cool drink to keep you hydrated (with a secure lid). All levels are welcome. If you have never done yoga you will be able to participate as well.

Tour | Flatiron District Walking Tour


A journey through the vibrant neighborhood, viewing some of the City’s most notable landmarks, including the New York Life Insurance Building, the MetLife Clock Tower, the Appellate Courthouse and the famous Flatiron Building. Tour guides: Miriam Berman, historian and the author of Madison Square: The Park and Its Celebrated Landmarks and New York in Words and Images, a book of New York postcards. Fred Cookinham, historian, author of The Age of Rand: Imagining an Objectivist Future World. Mike Kaback, a native New Yorker, has an unquenchable enthusiasm for everything about this city. Hike | The Geology of Northern Manhattan


New York City is the site of ancient earth-shaking and earth-shaping events. The bedrock that anchors the city’s skyscrapers tells a story of a place going back more than a billion years. The island of Manhattan is built on three strata known as Manhattan Schist, Inwood Marble, and Fordham Gneiss. Urban Park Rangers lead this hike.

Workshop | Community Rowing


No experience is necessary though rowing does require some physical dexterity. Community Rowing events are free sessions that include a basic introduction to rowing for first timers (safety orientation, rowing technique, and terminology) and of course plenty of actual rowing on the Hudson River. The rows take place in five-person wooden rowboats built on site. The rows last, depending on river conditions and crew experience, between one and three hours. Please arrive on-time as the crews will be assigned before 1PM. Bring extra water, a hat, and sunscreen as you will be rowing outdoors in the hot sun. Rowing is weather dependent and will be canceled for high winds, rain, or thunderstorms. All participants must sign a waiver and be able to climb a ladder. Every Sunday from June 10-October 21, 2018.

Festival | Lower East Side Pickle Day


New York’s quintessential fall festival is back and ready for pickle fanatics from all over the world. A dill-ightful collection of merchants will fill Orchard Street with the divine scent of brine offering everything from the simple pickle on a stick, to ice cream flavored with dill and garnished with gherkins. Pickle Day is a slice of the city’s history, reminiscent of when the streets of the Lower East Side were lined with pushcarts peddling their goods and wares for sale to a neighborhood of immigrants from far and wide.

Dance Lesson | West African Dance Class


Come alone, with a friend, or with the whole family and take a West African Dance Class led by world-renowned master drummer Yahyah Kamate. Yahyah began his training in his native Cote D'Ivoire and has choreographed and danced for such renowned companies as Fotemoban Dance Company, Djensia Group, Camodgen of N’guatta Dolikro Dance Company of Cote d’Ivoire, and Affoubenou Sakassou Dance Company of Senegal. For the past 15 years, he has worked as lead dancer and choreographer for several companies in the United States, including Kulu Mele Dance Company and The Seventh Principle. Jeffrey Milarsky is one of the leading conductors of contemporary music in New York City. He has premiered and recorded works of many contemporary composers, including Charles Wuorinen, Milton Babbitt, Elliott Carter, Lasse Thoresen. He has conducted such accomplished groups as the American Composers Orchestra, the New York New Music Ensemble, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Columbia Sinfonietta among others.
