You can take at least 13 free tours every day of the year, except the New Year Day, July 4th, and the Christmas Day. Other | Nature Sanctuary Open Hours


During these limited hours, visitors can explore the normally closed sanctuary at their own pace along the rustic trail. See how the conservancy has restored this native woodland garden for birds and other wildlife. The wood-chipped trail is uneven; please wear appropriate shoes. This ecosystem is a protected area and home to many flora and fauna. No groups, dogs, bikes, or strollers. Free and self-guided. Space is limited.

Religion influences American political and public life in a huge variety of ways, shaping foreign policy, economics, and social issues. We seek to understand how religion impacts the way in which candidates for political office engage these issues. Polls show that, in general, religious Americans are more likely to vote Republican and less-religious or secular Americans tend to vote Democratic; however, the role of religion in government is much more complicated and nuanced than this simple binary. In his lecture, Laurence A. Rickels reenters the exchange between Walter Benjamin and Alexander Mette, which led to Mette’s review of Ursprung des deutschen Trauerspiels in Imago and brought Benjamin to consider the clinical picture of schizophrenia, the topic of Mette’s dissertation-book, which he in turn reviewed. While this contact underscores Benjamin’s interest in the clinical picture of psychosis, which Rickels sees as fundamental to Benjamin’s understanding of the melancholic mode of allegory, Rickels’ emphasis this time lies on the research Mette pursued as bona fide psychoanalyst in Nazi Berlin.

Discussion | Musician Meredith Monk and Poet Anne Waldman in Conversation


Meredith Monk is a Grammy-nominated composer, singer, director/choreographer and creator of new opera, music-theater works, films, and installations. Recognized as one of the most unique and influential artists of our time, Monk’s work has been presented by BAM, Lincoln Center Festival, and London’s Barbican Centre, among other major venues around the world. Her many honors include a MacArthur “Genius” Grant, three Obie Awards, and two Bessie Awards for Sustained Creative Achievement. In 2014, Monk also received the National Medal of Arts from President Obama. Anne Waldman is the author of over forty books of poetry, most recently Voice’s Daughter of a Heart Yet To Be Born (Coffee House Press, 2016). Her numerous honors include the American Book Awards’ Lifetime Achievement Award, the Dylan Thomas Memorial Award, and the Shelley Memorial Award. Waldman is a Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets and is the director of the MFA Writing and Poetics program at the Naropa Institute. She divides her time between Boulder, Colorado, and New York City.

Concert | Steven Lubin, Mater of the Fortepiano


Steven Lubin (born 1942 in Brooklyn) is an American pianist and musical scholar. He is best known for his performances on the fortepiano, the early version of the piano. A subspecialty of Lubin's is his approach to performing the keyboard works of the Viennese Classical composers (Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven and Schubert) on replicas of the historic instruments actually used by the composers.
